i have had Hullabaloos and it is good. i get it with the provolone, onions, peppers and mushrooms. any others?

Stovers did one on a trial basis years ago at his old place, or maybe it was one of his other places. Maybe in Village Foods. I don't know if he does that anymore.

i had high hopes for Great Wraps (because everywhere else I've liked em) and the one in CS is a miserable failure imho.

sorry, but a Philly Cheesesteak is never ever done in a "wrap". just sayin'. that is almost sacrilegious!

Great Wraps does it in sandwich form. Its terrible regardless. Not sure why the food is so different at our CS location compared to everywhere else. Its located in The Rise.

Lenny's Subs had my favorite cheesesteak around here. Harvey Washbanger's has a good one.

I agree, Lenny's was my go to, chicken philly, at least 3 times a month. Extremely sad when they left :/

Now Philly's OTHER regional sandwich, the roast pork one...that's worth seeking out.

Man, I miss Texadelphia.

When I went to Philly in 2010, I ate at Jim's, Pat's, Spataro's, and one or two other places I've since forgotten about. I wanted to try more but I got tired of paying $20 in cab fare for $10 sandwiches. Anyway, of the ones I tried, Spataro's was by far the best, Jim's was OK, and Pat's was bland. Overall, I was underwhelmed with all of them. Now, keep in mind there are a lot of variations when it comes to cheesesteaks with provolone, american, whiz, onions/no onions, pizza steaks, etc. I stuck mostly to whiz with onions but wish I'd tried some pizza steaks.

Honestly, my favorite cheesesteaks are the ones I make. I start with a fresh loaf of bread from Jimmy John's for $0.99 (makes two sandwiches) and then use Steak-Umms from the HEB freezer section, grill them in a skillet with some season all, grill up a bunch of chopped onions, then smear hot Cheez Whiz on the bread and pile on the meat and onions. Delicious, cheap, and easy.

Willie's, Hullalaboo Diner, and Ozona are the best I know of.

Cheddars has the best one I have tried in town

Does Subway have one? If so, I'd try them first. Chains usually nail down tasty things like this.

Eh. Love the burgers at Washbanger's, but last time I was in there couple weeks ago, I had their Philly Cheesesteak & it was only "Meh."

Yeah, had one of those at DiNic's. It was alright I suppose. Local eats in Chicago kicked Philly's butt.

Quite agree. Chicago's fare > cheap meat covered in melted fake cheese slurry.

thanks for the recs. looks like i'm going to Washbanger's to give them a try this week. will try Willie's, because every thing i have had there is good. might give Cheddar's a chance next time i am there, just on a whim. who knows?

LOL at anything advertised as a Philly cheesesteak with provolone or bell peppers. Get the right bread, use a good marbled rib, grilled onions, and Cheez Whiz. That's it. Add anything to this and it ain't Philly.

Hullabaloo's Philly with some Elvis fries. Had that yesterday and it was glorious.

yes Fonzie, a cheesesteak "wit" is the original, but you can get one in Philly at lots of places with provolone, peppers, and 'shrooms.

Yah Harvey's philly was pretty bad when I had it.

The cheese steak at Koppee Bridge is good. I know everyone goes for their burgers, but try the cheese steak next time.

I don't know how authentic the Philly at Hullabaloo is, but it is delicious.

The one time I had a philly cheese steak in philly, I didn't like it that much. Maybe I went to the worst philly cheese steak place there. I've had better tasting ones here in TX.

That being said, for my money, I'd rather have a roast beef au jus sandwich (french dip).
