Got a citation for an expired MVI sticker (over 60 days).

First, sorry for a long post here. I got pull over yesterday and the motorcycle officer (and I too) discovered that both of my registration and inspection stickers have expired since December (completely my fault).

Apparently, my online registration did not go through and I completely forgot about that and so as the usual annual inspection afterwards because the registration sticker never arrived.

The officer got my driver's license to run some checks and later came back telling me that the registration is OK but he'd gave me a citation for "MVI Sticker, EXPIRED." I assume that stands for the Motor Vehicle Inspection Sticker Violation ($190) and not for the expired registration. Today, I went to DMV to get the registration and had the car inspected already.

Since it has expired for over 60 days, I fully prepare to pay for the ticket and I don't see the point of pleading non-guilty. However, my concern is whether paying the citation will automatically show up as citation on my driving record and I'd end up paying high car insurance for years to come. So I wonder if I should show up in court to show the judge that I have already did the registration and inspection as well as willing to pay the fine and see if the citation can be dismissed. Is that possible in the municipal court? Would my car insurance premium go up because of the expired inspection sticker? Thanks for your input.

Over 60 days is slim to none chance that it will get dismissed, but should not affect insurance rates. It is not a moving violation.

Highly doubt it.

Had this happen. Paid the late fine at the Tax office and showed the court that document. The fine for my county was $25 dollars if I got it all done within 14 business days. Mistakes happen.

Pretty sure "moving violations" are the only things insurance or anyone else cares about though the police do record the sticker, and what not, citations. Don't sweat it.

I think you may have a chance to get it absolved, with court fee paid. I did this a couple of years ago. It was over 90 days past validity, and got it dismissed for the $10 court fee, after I got it renewed within 10 days of the ticket.

As reported on MYBCS, last night I received a citation for expired MVI from a motorcycle cop. I went to the Quicker Sticker with the intent to purchase a new inspection sticker but made a terrible mistake for which I'm taking full responsibility. In a moment of youthful ignorance, I was operating my vehicle with an MVI sticker 60 days out of date.

I hope and pray my friends and family will view me as the 20 year old young man that I am, and support me through this unfortunate situation.

Wait? Not 20 years old, a freak athlete, Heisman, and National Championship winner?

In that case, you are out of luck.

You know whats funny......

I got the same ticket from a constable once. Precinct 1. (McCleary I think)

Anyway, I went and got the inspection, and then paid the ticket fine.

The ticket fine was $10

An expired MVI sticker might get dismissed depending on how soon you get it in. A month or two, with proof that you got it repaired from Quicker Sticker or something, will only be a small fee.

I had an expired sticker for 4 months (expired July, pulled over in November). Had to pay full price...

...but no, it wasn't a permanent thing.

They typically dismiss these with no fine, even over 60 days. I just dealt with this last week, and mine was over 120 days.

Take it to an inspection place that can print an official Texas MVI Vehicle Report. Take the report to the Clerk when you appear, and they should dismiss it with no fine.

A few years ago I got an MVI for 1.5 years old, and that one the clerk couldn't dismiss, so I requested a hearing (without pleading either way) and the judge asked me some questions and dismissed it with no fine.

Both my experiences were in Bryan. I don't know about College Station, but I understand they are pretty similar.
