I cannot imagine that failure to correctly parallel park could be the sole reason for flunking a driver's test. Admittedly it has been many years ago, but that was the only part of the driving test I did not pass and my score was a 92. Burleson County/Caldwell.

My daughter did the parent taught program and took her test in Bryan. She passed on the first try. It was a good experience for us.

My friends daughter passed the test on her first try two weeks ago. I brought up this thread with her yesterday, she laughed and said the test was "easy".

It is an automatic failure if the driver hits the curb or bumbs the barriers. Same for a driver who hits a curb in a parking lot.

Don't forget about Bastrop... You have to make the appt in person but you can probably take the test the same day.
Let my daughter drive over and got her registered... then drove around while waiting for the appt to get more familiar with the area and had lunch. The guy there was fantastic! Put her at ease and she passed easily. Only points off for not signalling to turn in to parallel park.

I recommend them!

Being a jerk is one thing, but I am all in favor of stricter driving tests. No one knows right-of-way in this town. Propelling a ton of metal down the road at 70mph should not be taken lightly. My oldest has been getting lessons since she was 12, and I'm even starting to talk to my 10 year old about traffic laws and safety.

What I am seeing here is a bunch of self righteous know it all condemning parents they know NOTHING about!
There is a chance that one or two of the Bryan testers are the kind of folk like a lot of small town cops, little big man or woman syndrome)
Have no idea how many testers there are there but a lot could be luck of the draw. So all of you who think you are the greatest teachers and drivers in the world and raised and taught world class drivers just may have been lucky in the random pick of testers. If there is only one tester in the whole Bryan office then I am wrong, but I am betting there is more than 1 tester in the whole Bryan office! Glass House folks throwing ROCKS!!

I am not opposed to a difficult driving test or to strict test administrators. I am trying to avoid a situation where the driver must be perfect in order to pass. I've gotten enough feedback here and from others to decide that we probably will test at a location other than in Bryan.

They do grade hard and are nitpicky. It's frustrating, but not the problem. My son passed first try, but he had spoken to friends that didn't to find out what they were watching for.

The time and hassle it takes just to make an appointment is the problem.

Good choice. For peace of mind, avoid Bryan DPS for driving tests.

I passed my first time around. Though that was a few years ago
