Does anyone know if College Station takes appliances on their bulky trash days? I have a dishwasher that needs to go, and my trash day is tomorrow.

Thanks!

It will probably be gone by morning. Put it at the curb now!

They took my hot water heater when we put it to the curb. If no one else takes it then big trash pick up should.

Assuming you live in College Station then the answer is YES, they will pick it up on your bulk pick-up day. They'll take just about anything, unless it contains freon (e.g.: refrigerator, AC unit, etc).

I've put a ton of stuff out there I didn't think they'd take, including a dishwasher, a very large couch, and several buckets of paint. What wasn't scavenged by those guys in their pickups was picked up by the city with a very impressive crane-like arm.

We asked it they would take our riding lawn mower and they said yes, so we put it on the curb the day before our bulk pick-up. It was gone within a couple of hours. Someone wanted it, hopefully just for scrap metal or whatever, since it was beyond repair (or at least, very costly.)

DO NOT put out paint! That needs to go the the city twice yearly toxic waste drive.

Good morning!

I believe for the most part everyone has answered your question! I just wanted to add a link for our Residential Collection Services - http://www.cstx.gov/index.aspx?page=2034 in case you needed any additional information.

I also wanted to let you all know the City of College Station’s Sanitation Division has launched a free smartphone and tablet computer app to provide timely information about the city’s sanitation and recycling services.

The my-waste app allows residents to create custom reminders for collection days and holidays, and can access detailed information about recycling, household hazardous waste disposal, landfill operations and more.

A Regional Solid Waste Grant by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality and the Brazos Valley Council of Governments funded the app.

The my-waste app works on Andriod and iTunes operating systems and can be downloaded from the Apple and Android app stores. Residents without smartphones or tablets can continue to access information online at cstx.gov/sanitation.

You can download the app here - http://m.my-waste.mobi/CollegeStation/

For more information, contact Recycling Coordinator Heather Qualls at 979.764.6229 or hqualls@cstx.gov.

I think this is a stupid question, but with the price of gas these days, can one make money patrolling neighborhoods picking up scrap?
[it must because I see them all the time]

What is the price of scrap metal?

They apparently dont pick up if you dont have a lot of stuff out there. I have had limbs on the ground for 2 weeks that still havent been picked up. Plan to add something this week to see if they will finally get them.

Do any of you know how to dispose of old gasoline? I found a can behind my shed that has been sitting outside for at least 2 years now.
Its way too dry to attempt to burn it plus I live in a neighborhood and my luck something would go really wrong

I would like to dispose of an old full size mattress box spring. Can I just set this out on the curb?

I would post this on the automotive or the outdoors board. I had the same question a few years ago and they ( outdoors board) gave me some excellent ideas. Sorry I don't remember any of them...Ive slept since then ...

Can a separate truck come and pick up my bulk trash if I was skipped this morning?

You can call the city and bug them. Usually they will come back and pick it up if they missed you.

hey all, figured I could just piggy back off of this thread instead of make a new one.

Old, compromised live ammunition. What is the "proper" way to dispose of them? I can pull the bullets and render the powder inert but iffy on the primers. Feel oddly weird about just tossing those. Ideas? Several hundred rounds worth.

Call the non-emergency p.d. number and they'll send someone by to pick it up, or tell you how they want it handled.
