Any suggestions for taking care of the remains of a pet who has passed away? Take him to the vet? Call animal control? Not wanting a big production.

Try your vet first. I think the Animal Shelter may take them, but with it being Sunday, it would be tomorrow. I don't thnk Animal Control handles deceased pets.

There's at least one pet crematorium in the area. I believe the one I'm thinking of is in Anderson.
Callaway Funeral Homes offers a pet cremation service.
Vet school may be another option. Sorry for your loss.

If you are just looking to get rid of the body you can out it in your city trash collection (certainly wouldn't want to do this if your collection is late in the week), or take it to the landfill on Monday when they open. If you take a copy of your utility bill that shows a sanitary/trash collection fee, the landfill is free.

Just to add - animal control in CS does not pick up deceased animals.
Uhm...Im going to go ahead and suggest the obvious....bury it in the yard? That's what we always did. Figured they loved being there anyway, so that's where we put them when they passed.
Our beloved 70 pound dog passed away at home. We took her remains to the Animal Shelter. They quickly and kindly handled the situation for a nominal fee.
