Jennifer, Nightingale Pest, treated for mosquitoes Friday. She has added some oils that move the gnat buggers on, they are migrating pests. Smelled great. It is not long lasting, so when the next swarm arrives...

Expecting this will be a very buggy year.

Those early freezes had me optimistic for a cold, bug killing winter. It did not come to pass.

Great site for Buffalo Gnat discussion! I live in Sugar Land and have also been aggressively attacked by these annoying pests over the past 2 years during the Springtime warmup (April / May). I believe the problem began with the Brazo River floods that we had over the past few years. For me the worst part has been the quarter-size welt that itches like crazy for 1-2 weeks! However, I just found a handy little gadget that really seems to work to greatly reduce the welt and the itchiness of Gnat and Mosquito bites. It is called a "Therapik" and applies localized heat via a small lightbulb and a 9 volt battery. Bought mine on Online - check out the reviews. Regarding Mosquitoes hanging around my front door area I have also found that a product called the "Patio Egg" is also really effective. So glad to learn from this forum that the Buffalo Gnat outbreak each year is primarily confined to a short cycle ahead of the hot summer temperatures.

These things are horrible. To me, the sting hurts more than a fire ant bite

I agree. Try the Therapik. Really works to reduce the bite effects!

The banning of community wide mosquito fogging has led to the outbreak of these gnats and other insects that we never noticed in the past. I remember chasing those trucks on my bicycle and having to dodge birds as they fell out of the trees. I guess that's the reason the trucks have stopped running.
