All the restaurants along university are referred to as "restaurant row". Coming to a Texas avenue near you, chicken finger row. The place looks a little more upscale than tasty lanes and nasty canes. Never had it before but look forward to giving it a try

I have never bought Cane's and thought it was "nasty".

Likewise, I have never had Layne's and thought it was tasty.

Cane's chicken is much higher quality than Layne's. Don't really see how anyone could eat the 2 and argue this. Really don't get the hate for Cane's.

They are on par with each other. Both have good and bad points. I think Laynes fingers are too dry personally, so you have to pay extra to get enough sauce to deal with that.

Last time I was at that Layne's, there were foot-long cobwebs hanging from the ceiling right over the tables which hadn't been cleaned off or wiped down by anyone who worked there.

I've eaten at Cane's ever since. Cleaner facilities and MUCH MUCH friendlier employees.

This is very true.

Comparing to Laynes....

Canes is larger pieces of meat. But batter/breading isn't as good.

Sauce is similar, but more creamy, not as much pepper or not as much bite.

Canes is also newer/cleaner.

I still choose Laynes.

We love Cane's and like all the support they give Aggie athletics. We often eat there when whatever sporting event we attend meets the Cane's Challenge. IWe will probably try Fowl Digits at some point. We don't care for Layne's.

I'm not sure what I think about all three chicken finger places being right next to each other. I don't know if it's good or bad marketing. Time will tell, I guess.

It's been a while since I've been to Layne's but I do remember that I was standing at the register and the floor was so greasy that I was sliding when I reached out to pay for the food...

Layne's has the worst service and slowest speed of any restaurant I've been to. They make THREE THINGS. Why does it take 20 minutes to get my food?

Instead of "Chicken Finger Row", I believe the name of the area will be "The Chicken Strip".

I can't fathom the need for three chicken finger joints in a row. Seriously?

If Fowl Digits is half decent, Layne's will be gone within 3-4 months. No way all 3 of those are staying open.

Laynes = better sauce
Canes = better environment
FD = beer on tap. Win.

This. And is not likely to be Cains. Laynes better kick it into gear and clean up their act. Offering some new items that the others do not offer might also help!

Honestly, I have no idea why we need three chicken strip places, either. There are probably 50 other places that offer chicken strips too!

Not at that location.... most people go to the newer one on wellborn.

I am actually surprised that location hasn't been shutdown for failing a health inspection.

People said they wouldn't last when Cains moved in. But if it's true that Digits serves beer as well, they may actually close that location.

Layne's isn't the one that's going to close

Fowl Digits isn't the same formula as Layne's & Cane's. It's got more of a sports bar thing. And a pretty broad menu.

Laynes has absolutly without a doubt the worst customer service of any restaurant in BCS.
My last I went inside and had to make my way thru tables full of trash to get to the counter and was greeted with "yeah" by the employee at the register.
I made my order and waited a good 15 minutes, then when it was ready an employee who was standing in front of the counter talking with friends, looked at me and said "hey, your food is on the counter".
Wow, will never go back.
And that was just the last straw, customer service has never been a priority at Laynes and it shows. Always got very poor customer service.

How Layne's stays in business is a mystery to me.
Dumpy joint with lousy service. All the ingredients for fail.

"Cock Block" is better.

Also, I think the "service" at Layne's is intentional and part of the atmosphere.

I never go to Cain's unless outside BCS. But, I'll try Fowl Digits since it's a little different. They have some interesting menu items plus I love chicken.

Yeah right. Get a clue. Have you not read the 800 horrible reviews about poor service and cleanliness on this thread. Half the people on here have no clue how that place has stayed open. I'm more than willing to bet they are hanging on by a thread and will be closing shortly after FD opens (if FD has good service and even decent food).

Don't mean to pile on Lane's but yeah the service by the kids (went to the new one) was absolutely horrendous!!!

So much do that I vowed to never again go to that place, that was about 3 years ago.............apparently things haven't changed, so no need to go and put up with crappy attitude by the folks working there!

I haven't been back to Laynes since the time during lunch that I watch an employee walk around and pick up the used baskets, napkins and a food objects from the tables and not wipe the tables.

I watched other persons purchase their food and sit at those tables.

When I was on my way out I asked for the manager and a guy said why?

I told him I was curious as to if they ever wipe the tables down after people eat at them and touch the tables with their dirty hands, arms, and elbows and drop food on the tables?

He proceeded to chuckle and say something like they do if they aren't in a hurry.

I have never been back.

Laynes isn't going to close. Some of you piling on have opined "How does this place stay in business?" Well, it does. Laynes isn't going anywhere.

Layne's will stay open because they have very little overhead and don't spend money on cleaning supplies and employee training.

I counted exactly 10 "horrible reviews" about Laynes on this thread, not 800 as an earlier poster indicated. Y'all think a few cranks on my bcs are going to shut down a "Soon to be famous" Aggie institution? Well good luck with that. You might have noticed that Raising Canes didn't accomplish that in the years its been here...
What the hell do I care, I don't even eat chicken fingers...I always thought they were an item relegated to the "Kid's Menu" for functions.

Laynes used to be the place, back in '04 when I got here
Last time I went it was a complete joke
I Have met the owner of Fowl Digits and seems like a great guy, I will definately be trying it when it opens next week!
