What happened to Chick Fil A in the mall? Everything was boarded up.

Increasingly high rent drove them out of the mall, according to posters here.

I don't think it was a business thing.... while it always was busy after they opened the store on texas they realized they make a ton more money with a standalone restaurant compared to the mall. Also bet the mall rent is expensive compared to the stand alone store.

YW, Lucinda.

Edit: evidently, my link to past posts where people thanked me was seen as "insulting" by some on here.

Shrug. Seems odd to me, but then, stranger things have happened on this board. My apologies to anyone who was offended, and I've edited the Google link out.

One of my employees also worked at Chic Fil A. She told me that they had been on a month to month lease and Mall management asked them to sign for a longer term as someone(Raising Caines)was interested in the space. Some corporate employees had been down for a month or 2 to run it because they had taken it back over from the franchisee and told me that they were trying to phase out their mall locations.....

Edit: Newbomb called me an anatomical object, whereupon in this post I called him a four letter word which starts with J and rhymes with Turk.

Evidently, this insult offended several of you. Therefore, I sincerely apologize and will attempt to restrain from calling people this pejorative in the future.

Also, when I called him "Grasshopper," ( When will you stop insulting people, Grasshopper? ) which is a reference to the old Kung Fu show and was in no way meant to be insulting, may perhaps nonetheless be construed as an insult. I have edited that out also, and sincerely apologize if anyone was offended.

And they were probably both you.

I think you just attempted to insult me as well. Too bad it didn't take.

Which one, Only? The one where I fussed at Jerk for calling me a "tool," something staff has deleted in the past? Or was it some other one where I provided helpful info to a poster?

Giving OP a link to Google. Often your insults are simply more discrete than Turk's.

Indoor malls are dying all over America....they are a dying breed.

These days people want to either go through a drive through or park in front of a store and quickly go in and eat at fast food restaurants and most all other stores.

I walking into Dillards for the first time in year's Christmas eve morning about 11am and hardly saw anyone. The clerk that waited on me said she has worked there for more than a decade and has never seen the store so slow as it was this year.

Post Oak Mall will be the first mall in the country that has a food court without food.

Yes the mall was dead pretty much all day on Christmas Eve. Sonic is also leaving the food court in 2012

I was at the mall on the 23rd and it was a friggin madhouse. The retail staff said it had been crazy and that the 23rd is typically the big day before Christmas, with the 24th being more subdued.

The 23rd was much busier than the 24th.... Talking with other store managers, it seems everyone's sales were down from years past.

If indoor mall shopping in the south is dying then it seems to me the way for the mall to fix this is to renovate giving all locations an exterior exit and making them deeper and killing the interior walk areas. Sure they will end up with some wasted space in the middle but better than closing. Perhaps they could turn the middle in to "storage" for rent

I cant imaging malls up north are dying.. cmon, its TOO cold up north to wanter outside all the time

Shame about Chick Fil A--I hate to see any local business close. As for the mall, management could make an immediate improvement by policing a cadre of kiosk agents (and some of their allied store fronts) whose tactics/business ethics are somewhat questionable. They are the main reason I do not frequent POM.

I think Raising Cane's is gonna be taking it's place. I saw a little sign in the food court that said Raising Cane's was coming soon to post oak mall..so it would only make sense to put it where the available spot is.

I am sad to see one go, but honestly, it was my last resort for a Chickfil A, the mall is dirty and refuse to let them play in the food court. The stand alone restaurants are amazing, and clean, and the service is top notch. I can't say I will really miss that option. There is only 1 or 2 stores in the mall I frequent anymore. I think it is on its last leg, and can't say I will really miss it.

What is the most valuable part of Ghost Oak Mall? The vast unused parking lot areas. It's providing a good location for new vibrant business.

The mall is pathetic, outdated and dirty!

Attitudes about malls are also changing. With changing priorities, people have less time to spend driving to and strolling through malls, and in the current economic climate, the specialty stores offer what many shoppers see as useless luxuries they can no longer afford. In this respect, big box stores and conventional strip malls have a time-saving advantage.[5] The rise in big box stores since the 1980s left malls reliant on an older business model that couldn't change with the times. 21st-century retailing trends favor open air lifestyle centers, which resemble elements of power centers, big box stores, and strip malls over indoor malls. The massive change led Newsweek to declare the indoor mall format obsolete in 2008.

I think a big issue with the mall is that it has too many idiots that hang out there nowadays. I certainly have no desire to walk my kids through a crowd of thugs whos belt buckle is worn at their knees and has the language of a drunken sailor.

Sad to hear about CFA in the mall, that was the only place we'd eat if we ever went to the mall.

I also heard Raising Cains is taking its place. Given that I don't see how this topic moved to people not liking malls or it being a bad location. With chic filets recently opened store right down the street it just makes since.

I haven't been to the mall in years, so I am just relying on what has been written here and what I've heard from others who've said it is pretty much dying, but if it is so bad (and it must be given how many stores have been leaving) then why is Raising Cane's opening a new store there? Seems like a pretty bad idea.

Sad to see it go as it was the only place we eat at when we make it over to the mall.

Although we rarely ever go to the mall anymore. Sometimes I go into JCPenney but never actually into the mall itself.

CF was my favorite place to go on Sundays in the mall...
Fortunately there is one being built as we speak right across the street!

As I recall, CFila closes on sundays. Where across the street is one being built?
