I have large areas of Asian Jasmine that has turned dead brown and have noticed the same in neighbors' yards.

Is this due to heat or disease? Mine was watered judiciously over the summer, so I do not think it is lack of water.

thanks~

Mine (in 2 different areas) has never thrived this year. Before that, it grew so aggressively that it was easy to trim it and keep it dense and beautiful. I assumed that last winter, the freezes were either too frequent or too deep and harmed them.

Everything in the yard looks so worn and tired. I hope we do not have another "hard" winter.

momlaw,
Asiatic jasmine doesn't really have any disease or pest issues here so, most likely what you are seeing is die back from the drought. Even plants that are receiving watering can show this type of symptom. Just take a look around town at all of the dead and dying Indian Hawthorn's. If it hasn't wiped out your whole bed, you will most likely see it return in the spring. You can always replant in the dead spots to speed up the recovery. Good luck!

I have about 3500' feet of lush asian jasmine mixed in among trees. It has survived everything nature has thrown at and has spread like crazy and thickened up lushly. However this year it browned out greatly during the 2 weeks in august when we had the 110 days. Even with a good watering.

With the cooler weather the jasmine has really started to come back.

Also use blood meal in your jasmine beds twice a year..

Just remember, when you are watering, you are adding salts to the plants/ soils. This could be an issue as well.

Glad to know it is not diseased.

I'm happy knowing we're not the only ones with this issue...very disheartening to look at the skeletons of what used to be a very lush Jasmine patch... now it looks like a checkerboard.
