I'm not a big jewelry wearing guy but I have three rings that are important to me; my wedding ring, college ring, and Masonic ring. If I wanted to wear all three, which finger should the third ring be worn on and which ring should it be? What say you MyBCS?

I wear my Aggie ring on the ring finger of my left hand, but I know that's not common outside of A&M and the service academies. I guess you would wear your wedding ring on your left ring finger and your college ring on your right ring finger. I'm not familiar with the etiquette on Masonic jewelry, but I suppose wherever you like--a pinky, perhaps?

Whichever fingers your rings fit on. To be honest nobody outside of yourself is going to care what fingers you wear your rings on.

Berkata, I am not a Mason, yet. My plan, when the time comes to get a ring, is to wear it on my index finger.

I say that because that way no rings would be 'banging' against each other. I guess my second choice would be to wear it on my pinky.

I think those are about your only two options right?

This.... or get a wedding band that fits nicely up against either of the other two and wear that combo on your left hand. Women wear an engagement ring and a wedding ring on the same finger.

This brings up a side question for me -- anyone ever heard of a "secret society" that wears their Aggie Ring on the ring finger of the left hand? I know of plenty of Ags who do this, but their reasons are either married or military. Nothing secretive about either to me.

Anyone got anything enlightening that won't cost you a finger, etc., to share with the group/interwebs?

TIA

You're talking about the Stickas, And it's in your best interest to not inquire further.

Oh God, this crap again...

(Not talking to you, OP. FWIW, most Aggie Masons I know wear their Aggie ring in front of their wedding band, and sometimes even get the wedding band bent to fit snugly)

There are at least two secret societies, and they have been around forever. The members of at least one of them usually wear their rings on the left hand. However, in "Old Army days" it was common to wear it on the left hand--secret society or not. This is fairly common at military colleges (USMA, The Citadel, VMI). There are plenty of rumors about the supposed sinister purposes of these societies, but all I have seen is that they like to get together and drink, like most college kids. Also there appears to be a strong business networking component.

And before you ask I am not in either of these organizations.

Back to the ring question: My grandfather wore his Aggie ring on his left hand and had no wedding ring. It was not uncommon in those days for the man not to wear a ring. My dad wore both his wedding ring and his Aggie ring on the same finger. Because his wedding ring was 14K and his Aggie ring was 10K, he had to have them joined to keep from wearing through his wedding ring.

Short answer: Do what you want.

Don't know if this helps, but seems to be the most practiced by today's mason's

1.
Married men typically wear their Masonic ring on the right hand. The little finger, as opposed to the ring finger, is a popular choice.

2.
Buy a Masonic ring that fits the finger you've chosen.

3.
Set the ring on your finger so that the legs of the compass face away from you. The original Masonic signet rings had to face this direction to ensure that when the wearer pressed the ring (with his fist) into warm wax, the legs of the compass pointed down on the resulting wax seal.

My father ('42) always wore his Aggie Ring on the left hand. He said it was because, when he shook hands, it didn't get "ground" into the adjacent fingers. He did wear his wedding ring on his right hand though.

When he was passing away, he couldn't speak or open his eyes. We were in the hospital and the nurses began removing his rings. First they removed his wedding ring without any problem. But when they went to remove his Aggie Ring, he mustered enough strength to clinch his fist and shake his head "NO". He died with his ring on, polished almost smooth from decades of wear. I'll never forget that.

It makes you wonder why he valued his Aggie ring more than his wedding ring. What a weird story.
