A CSPD mobile tax collector is currently illegally parked in a turn lane, facing roughly east, on William D. Fitch near Pebble Creek Parkway.

I know better than to park my car in a turn lane as it definitely creates a hazard for other motorists. And, if my car were to stall in a turn lane, I would turn on my hazards. The tax collector didn't have his hazards on, and didn't appear to have stalled.

I sure wish he was driving through the neighborhood instead of sitting parked illegally -- he might have noticed the teenage kid on a golf cart that I almost ran over when he pulled out in front of me.

So a police car was still sitting on the side of the road on Hwy 40, probably after having pulled someone over.

Some drivers are morons who pull to the left when they're stopped by the police, rather than pulling over to the right side of the road like they're supposed to. This almost always results in a cop car being parked on the wrong side of the road while finishing paperwork, checking their computer, etc.

Mobile tax collector. HA! Good one dude...

Nope--he was sitting in a center turn lane (middle of the road, not the side of the road) and was running radar.

He did not have his lights flashing nor his blinkers on. If he really had just finished pulling someone over (which he hadn't), he could at least have had his lights going (which he didn't) to minimize the danger of being parked in a hazardous location.

I suggest you call the police chief with your complaint. He could assist much better I'm sure.

Ozy,
So what? It is not illegal for him to be in the turn lane. Plus, you are more likely to suffer a huge financial loss in a traffic accident as opposed to a home burglary. PLUS the nearby presence of a cop in a car deters crime because the bad guys know that if a neighbor calls the 5-0 because something suspicious is going on at a nearby house, the cop in the car four blocks away can get there in a flash. That's one reason you'll see cops sitting in a parking lot somewhere writing reports instead of going to the police station... they are here to serve and protest your ungrateful self.

Drive the speed limit and the po-po will leave you alone. Be thankful they are not on a murder call or something worse.

I don't believe this was a location specified for enforcement this week.

______________

They are allowed to write tickets anywhere someone violates the traffic code. They announce locations in order to give folks a heads up, maybe impact folks' driving, and cut down on bad driving and wrecks.

Actually, he gets to ignore certain rules of the road when necessary, such as during a pursuit. He is supposed to obey them at other times. Parking in a turn lane is not legal if he is just sitting there running radar.

Indeed, which is why police officers should not be parked in places which can cause a hazardous traffic situation.

I'm all for the police driving through neighborhoods. And, I'm all for them running their radar while they are driving through neighborhoods. I don't like people speeding any more than you do. What I don't like is when the police cause a hazardous situation in the pursuit of money rather than actually driving around and spotting a problem.

I choose not to pay these taxes. You know how I do it? That's right, I follow the rules. What a radical concept for a civilized society!

LOL I actually like the CSPD and know they are professionals. That doesn't mean they are perfect or that they can do no wrong, people.

Drive around, catch speeders, stop burglaries, etc: All good bull.

Park illegally in a dangerous location just to run radar: Bad bull.

If you have a complaint call the on duty sergeant - much more efficient than complaining on here where the appropriate person probably won't see it. 979-764-3600 and ask for the on duty sergeant.

Plus as far as officers working outside of the traffic locations I posted. I post for the traffic unit (motor guys) only. So other officers will always be working in other areas. In addition, the locations that I and BPDMotors post are not all inclusive - we are just posting the MAIN locations.

TLIAC, I really just wanted to vent, hence I came here. This is the AggielandVent board, right? ;-)

It wasn't something I wanted to call the police department and try to get someone particular in trouble about. I also usually don't call up the manager at McDonald's when they leave the cheese off my Spicy McChicken, but it does tick me off.

Ozy, Hey the police can break the law whenever they wish, its their right. Suggest you take a picture of the car, then walk to the corner and cross to the turn lane ( don’t want to get a jay walking ticket) ask the law enforcement officer his name & badge #, take his picture, then turn it in for the city to collect. Bet you get all kinds of orders & comments.

I understand the need to vent however - hear me out. I know you say he was running radar - if he was in a car, it is mounted on the dash and you don't really have any way to know that is what he was doing. He may have had a report of a drunk driver east/west bound on that road and maybe he was waiting for the vehicle to come his way. May have had a report of a suspicious vehicle leaving a particular subdivision and he may have been stopped waiting for it to pass by. Maybe there was no place else for he/she to stop. Lights on - yes - in a perfect world but remember lights on would alert the drunk/bad guy that a cop was ahead and cause him to turn around. Just a possible scenario.

Or maybe it was an officer running radar - if it was unsafe - we need to know so we can educate our guys/gals how to work a particular area in a safer way. We do have a lot of new officers. New and older officers can always learn.

You could talk to the sergeant, tell them the situation and tell them you don't want to complain, you are just concerned. The sergeant could check into it.

I wish we were perfect in every way but alas, we are just people.
