Are semi-truck drivers allowed to talk on the cell while driving. I could understand handsfree maybe, but having one hand off the wheel?

Well, if you look at Smokey & the Bandit they were allowed to talk on CB Radio, so other than holding the phone to your ear, instead of holding a mic to your mouth, I don't really see a difference.

My guess would be yes.

One hand off the wheel, like when shifting gears or talking on the CB?

Do truckers still use CB radios these days, or do they surf the net on laptops?

When people in cars and regular trucks quit using them, big rig truckers will consider it. Trust me, the big rig guy can see around him alot better then the sweetie in her sports car.

Yes, truckers still use CB radios.

from truckercountry.com:

quote:
most truck drivers find the CB at an advantage over the cell phone for a variety of reasons. CB’s allow truckers to communicate with other trucks that are driving along the same road or passing. This way, truckers can get important information about what lies ahead in their drive. Drivers can also signal truck stops that they are intending to pull into a fuel bay or a weigh station. Drivers also often need CB’s to communicate their official trucking business, like picking up or receiving loads. For emergency purposes, channel 9, the emergency channel, reaches law enforcement.

Not sure if it ever passes or not but I was reading an article a few months ago about this.

Some states have passed a law for us to only use hands free devices. The fine is thousands of dollars. I dont even want to see the fine for texting..... I always have my Bluetooth no matter if I'm in a big or small truck.

As for CBs. Ya we use them. Channel 19. I can never understand it with everyone talking over each other though.
