I just wanted to say that I really enjoy 40 Tempura. My wife and I have been twice and had amazing food both times. They'll tell you what's fresh or just shipped in, and the quality is top notch. I personally recommend the Aggies roll.. I think I could eat this every day :P

One thing I noticed both trips is that there just haven't been that many people there. I'm hoping maybe others that might not have tried it but like sushi/rolls will give it a try.. I'd hate to see it go out of business - best sushi I've had in the BCS area.

And before anyone says something silly.. I'm in no way affiliated with it. I just want to be able to eat there in the future.

We like it too. We've been there 3 or 4 times, and the service and sushi has always been excellent.

40 Tempura and the new Kamei are the two best sushi places in town--they both have super fresh fish and we've enjoyed them every time we've been.

Both of them are also pretty much unknown and don't have very many people in them, so I'm concerned they won't last. If the hordes at Atami and Haiku only knew what they were missing...

40 tempura was fantastic but still the best rolls I've had have been at veritas.

My husband went there with a group earlier in the week and was impressed with the price and amount of food that he got.

Here's the menu as promised on another thread. In my opinion, 40 Tempura has by far the best sushi in town. The happy roll is my favorite. Can't recommend it enough.

Our family went to 40 Tempura last night including our 2 kids (5 and 2) and we all LOVED it!! I am not a sushi person and really not much of a fish eater and was so impressed there were delicious options for me (I had the chicken bento box)! My oldest loved the edamame and miso soup (Who knew!). The rest of our family (some of whom had never had sushi) really enjoyed the rolls including spicy tuna, the Texan, Korean, and Dragon. We tried I think all the desserts and holy moly the Tempura Green tea ice cream is so tasty!

It was a great dining experience which is often hard to come by! I enjoy the occasional trip to Veritas and to me the food at 40 Tempura is equally as good if not better and the price makes it a place we can visit on a regular basis!

I hope more people, even those who like me don't eat much fish let alone sushi, give it a try!! It would be such a disappointment to see a great place like this close!

Happy eating!!

Great food and atmosphere, but I'm not so sure it is (or should be) a kid friendly place.

It was awesome! I am not sure their intent on kids, but they had a high chair, kids cups and certainly didn't turn away our business! It was excellent and recommend you try it out!

Been there a few times and it's always excellent...and empty. Go support this place!

we have been with our toddler and they were great with her! Brought kiddie plastic utensils, etc. It is not so fancy or pricey I think of it as a non-kid place.

Ate there for the first time last night, absolutely perfect meal! Please support this small business, not too many people there. Clean, quiet restaurant & friendly staff!

Wonderful eatery! Husband is the sushi chef and the wife is his assistant. The wait-staff are excellent. This is like a 4-5 star restaurant at a much more affordable price.

My wife and I love this place. They are always very accommodating when we bring our 6 month old.

Just to clarify on the location a bit: it's located between the area where Lacks was and Brown's Shoe Fit in the strip that's closest to Texaqs Avenue.

There's also a new Korean place in that shopping center and I wanted to be sure folks knew where they should be looking.

Although the new Korean place is excellent as well.

I have heard this place is excellent, but looks a little pricey with most sushi rolls being 11 - 14 dollars.

Are there more pieces in those rolls ?

dang, just saw the pics....if all the rolls are that big I take back my price comment.

(might be the first time I have taken something back on this board)

We just had dinner here! Very good and reasonably priced. The service was excellent. However, we were the only people there for a while. When we left, there were probably 5 tables full of people. I hope this place makes it.

How'd it smell in there? I was in for lunch the other day and it smelled funny. Didn't really care for that at all. Other than that, place is great. Maybe they should advertise some.

I love sushi, but with the price, I can't afford to eat there often.

The girlfriend and I went out to the sushi place in Bryan off Texas @ North Ave E. Next to Cindie's.

For the two of us, it was $22. Would you say two could get full there for more/less? And how was it?

Our bill was around $20 for two of us and I took rice and veggies home for leftovers. We were both very full.

It didn't smell funny that I noticed.

Comparing Teriyaki Park+ to 40 Tempura is like comparing McDonald's to Veritas... sure, they can both whip up a burger, but they don't even begin to compare in terms of quality, taste, presentation, etc.

Alright, well, I've only been to the one I mentioned once, and I've never been to the one this thread is about.

Additionally, we only eat sushi once a month, if even that.

Could you provide more insight?
AggieJason
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Well to be honest, there's not much to compare.

The analogy is spot on - TP is like the McDonald's of sushi. They herd you in the front door, take your order, then you wait for your food when it's ready. There's not a whole lot of quality, and their freshness is dubious at best.

This really saddens me because TP used to be a decent, inexpensive sit-down sushi place. The owners (who posted their reasoning on here), departed from that style and made it more like a walk-in and order at the counter type place in order to take away the "scariness" of going to eat raw fish type food. It was very poor judgement, in my opinion.

The 40 Tempura to Veritas analogy is just that - you walk into 40 Tempura and see servers in black shirts, slacks, and ties. The ambiance is there to entice you to sit down and enjoy a luxurious meal, but w/o the luxurious price (don't get me wrong - it's pricey, but you'll get out spending only about $40 if you order a lot of food for two). There's none of this rushed feeling you get at other places. Also, since it's in a location off the beaten path, it's not some place that's going to be packed, loud, and uncomfortable.

Hope this helps. : )

went there with a group of friends for my birthday about a month ago. It was my third time there, and to my surprise, most of my friends had never even heard of the place.
Everyone was wonderful, food, service, atmosphere. I was a little disappointed because we were the only table in there at the time.
I do have to admit that it was nice, because we were drinking and getting a little rowdy, so we didnt have to worry about upsetting anyone, but i would have liked to see more people in there so this place will stay open.

If you havent been there, please go, it is great!!!

Wife and I went on Friday night. There were about 10-12 or more tables filled while we were there. Good traffic in and out. Even a carry out order. Seemed to be good business. Our food was great, as usual. We got the Spicy Dragon Roll and the Texan Roll with edamame to start. We received the dumplings in return for the mistake on the order. They miss made part of our order and immediately offered an appetizer while we waited for them to correct it. Very good place to eat out. Glad to see more traffic there.

I can't tell from the cut-off portion of the menu that was posted. Does 40 Tempura have teriyaki dishes? My husband hates sushi and fish, so we always end up going to Atami because he can get chicken teriyaki - just chicken and onions on a hot plate. Do they have anything like this at 40 Tempura? I saw something about bento boxes, but how about teriyaki? I'm dying to try this place!
