I'd like to find a knowledgable, honest, and good company that does air conditioning repair work that also does not cost an arm & leg..... Any recommendations?

Be VERY CAUTIOUS if you choose Barker's Heating and Cooling. They did general maintenance on our unit (they did this six months ago) and informed us that we needed to completely replace our entire a/c (inside and out) including the duct work! We have had no problems at all with heating and cooling and nothing was mentioned six months ago. When asked why they made this recommendation they merely said that our a/c was 12 years old and generally units have a lifespan of 15 years and that summer was upon us and we didn't want to find ourselves with a unit that doesn't work and then attempt to have it replaced (hard sell/scare tactic). They bid total replacement at $12,300. We immediately got a second opinion from Malek Service (979) 776-2222 who made a recommendation at the cost of $300 and said that though our unit was 12 years old there was no need to replace anything. So... those of you who use Barker's... BEWARE.

To clarify: Barker's maintained our unit six months ago reporting no issues or problems and then approximately three weeks ago they performed their six-month maintenance service and made the above-described recommendation.

we have used Hadley with Lavco for years. He is a great guy, a good family man, and about as honest and thorough as they come. Heck, he was checking our A/C system a couple of weeks ago and informed us we had a NG leak at the meter - nothing to do with his check up. Sure enough, Atmos came out and the leak was on their side.
