Anyone know...? We just stayed at the Hyatt Place for graduation and final review. It's a nice place, but I was shocked at the $259 per night charge.......

that's about the average for graduation weekend. You can get that same room for 125 or so on normal nights.

Everyone jacks up the rates for graduation, parents weekend and football games. The hilton is like $349/night on special event weekends.

Just be thankful you didn't have to stay at the Plaza.

The motel 6 on Texas is usually $43.99/$49.99 a night and went up to $89.99 for graduation weekend. The Hilton is usually the most expensive.

supply and demand. Try calling The Hilton to get a room for any of those weekends. It's booked at that rate.

Supply and Demand in action.

The Motel 8 (or equivalent) in Monterey California was $450/night during the first year of MotoGP racing. Talk about outrageous. 4 nights with everything included was about $2200!

Supply & demand! The community gouged so hard the first 2 years that people quit coming. Now those rooms are under $150. The whole area shot itself in the foot and folks voted with their wallets.

People won't quit coming to see their kids though.

People won't ever stop coming to those events because of hotel prices. The people who don't want to pay that find somewhere else to stay or aren't coming anyway.

The Hilton is the most expensive in town. When my kid graduates from A&M, I'm booking a dozen rooms at the Hilton for a ridiculous amount of money and every grandparent, sibling, cousin, you-name-it, is invited to come celebrate that accomplishment. I'll gladly pick up that hotel bill (and probably the bar tab too) and then I'll boot the kid off the family payroll forever....whoop!

I have a really nice 3400 sq ft house I am considering renting out....on 13 acres on the Brazos River. Is the demand high enough to jettison the idea of renting it out on a annual contract and instead, renting it out for special occasions/football weekends/basketball games/other sports & parent day/grad weekends? It has 4 bedrooms, 2 kitchens, huge decks, fireplaces, outside grill and fireplace, etc. I am just curious what folks here think....it's only about 10 minutes from campus.

I am about to start a remodel on it and I am trying to gauge the market I should be going for. I know it should be popular on an annual contract with Vet students looking for a place to keep their horses, etc.

Thoughts?

If this post is just wrong for this thread, I will start a new one. The prices for a room just encouraged me to ask.

Another idea is to stay in Navasota - they have a nice new Comfort Inn & Suites that is fairly inexpensive regardless of the times. It's only about a 17 minute drive and they have gotten a lot more restaurants... we are normally eating in Navasota after the game before we'd even be seated at any restaurant in CS on a big weekend. Just an idea. If you ever need help with this kinda thing call 936-825-7055 and speak with Kourtney

I'd look into renting it out for special events. Something that like would bring in $1500/weekend for football games I would think. Check out Traditions Casitas that they rent out. I would think you could charge that or more.

When I graduated last year my mom rented out a three bedroom house for my five family members that were coming to stay in. I'm not exactly sure how much they paid, but I know it was enough for the owners of the house to go out of town to a nice hill country weekend and still make some cash on top of that. I think she found it on one of the vacation rental by owner sites.

On top of that it was really nice having a place for everyone to gather and not be trying to cram 7+ people into a tiny hotel room.

The Insurance Guy - Actually our Cottages and Casitas are much less than $1500/night! I have listed below some great information regarding our Overnight Accommodations!

The Traditions Club Cottages and Casitas are available to members and non-members! We are excited about what we have to offer and know that you will love our Overnight Accommodations too! We have two choices, our Cottages or Casitas. Beyond just staying with us, you also can "play" with us. You will have access to our Traditions Grille and Family Pool Center as well as our Jack Nicklaus & Jack Nicklaus II Design Championship Golf Course! Below is a short description of each, however, I will say that unless you actually see them, this does NOT do them justice!

Our Casitas have 2 Master Suites with 2.5 baths, full kitchen with all appliance including a washer and dryer, and a living and dining room. There is also a front and back porch with a dull fireplace (one in the living room and on the back porch). The back porches sit on Holes 8 & 9 with the exception of 2. These run for non-members per night $350 on normal weekdays and weekends, $400 for special events like Parents Weekend and Graduation, and $475 for Football weekend; all prices reflecting the entire unit!

We also have 1 three bedroom, 3.5 bath and 1 four bedroom, 4.5 bath Cottage. These are all Master Suites and again have a full kitchen with washer and dryer, living and dining room and lots of porches and balconys. These both sit over looking a pond and Hole #1. These run for non-members per night $500 (3 bedroom)/ $650 (4 bedroom) during normal weekdays and weekends, $550/$700 for Special Event weekends like Parents Weekend and Graduation, and $750/$900 for Football weekends; again priced for the entire unit!

Please contact me if you would like further information or availibility at mnebera@traditionsclub.com!

These are available for one night to some longer stays with discounts on weekly and monthly stays. Also look out for our "Stay and Play" specials for those looking to get away for a great golf trip!

It was suggested $1500.00/weekend not $1500/night!

I think you would have no issues renting out a house all weekend for football and such!

yeah, I said $1,500/weekend.

My apologies I read the comment too quickly and apparently misunderstood the comment! I now see the "/weekend" part.

Well we have some Casitas for less that $1500 a weekend and the Cottages are right around that on football weekends!

If you are looking for a place for multiple couples to split, a family get together, or you just have a great big family these are the perfect place for you!

My personal opinion is that is way too expensive.
You will find a somewhat limited clientele with those numbers.

O I don't know. 4 bedrooms = 4 couples. 1500.00 / 4 = 375.00 per couple for an entire weekend. I do not know that you could get 2 night of hotels on a football weekend or not for that price.(I'm talking the upper scale hotels)

Its really not bad if you had several couples you always traveled with for the games.

Obviuosly I'm with you, I would not rent it for me and the SO only for a weekend though lol.

If you compare to the rest of the town, $1500 for a 4 bedroom is $375 per room for the weekend (like Mr. Allen said) and since most hotels have a 2 night minimum that's $187.5 a night. Looking at what people are paying on this thread that is cheaper! Plus I am assuming (only from what I have heard previously) that these rooms are standard hotel rooms, nothing special. This is a full house or Cottage with a full kitchen, living room (big area for lots of people to gather), back porches and balconies, washer and dryer, etc. There is also room to move around and gather vs. everyone being on top of each other in a hotel room. In my mind that is a great idea!

Job aside I know personally I typically look for places like this when I travel with larger groups because you are getting more for your dollar and typically is a better deal! Plus in my experience the overall experience for the weekend/trip/etc is always better and more pleasurable.

I was curious if many people did this, so I looked on vrbo.com. There are a few. You might contact them to inquire about their experiences.

To expand on what Meghan said, you would have a full kitchen if you wanted to save money eating.

Many more pluses for a house the same price vs a hotel!
