We have a large flourescent light fixture in our kitchen with two pieces of plastic that slide in to cover it and rest on a wooden frame. One of the plastic pieces broke , when trying to replace the light blubs. They are just square sheet of hard plastic. Any clue on where I could get replacement parts? Thanks

I'd try Lowes or Home Depot first.

Both places generally have them. (they are called lenses) Be sure to look at the lense because by their very construction and nature, they can crack in shipping.

They do crack easily and ask for them to cut them for you. If you try to cut them, they will crack but both Lowes and Home Depot have the lenses. We replace them in our stores on the 4x2 fixtures all the time.

Thanks. Went to Home Depot and it turns out that ours are custom cut, not the standard 2x4 that they carry. They suggested contacting the residental services for Acme Glass in Bryan.

home depot should carry the 2x2 diffusers/lenses as well.
or you can buy the 2x4 and cut it down to size with a box blade/utility knife.

last time I bought some from depot/lowes they ran ~$7. ACME will run >$20 (in my experience).

Yeah, I just edited my response. It turns out that our our custom sized, not 2x2 or 2x4.

most are somewhat custom sized.
I would suggest you buy one and trim it to fit.

ACME will try and charge >$35 for a 2x4 one.

If you need a lense that is flat (not the honeycomb style), then all you need is one of these...

and one of these...

You should be able to find a cheap plexiglass cutter for a couple of dollar and the straight edge should be under $10. Versions of both can be found at Home Depot.
