Are there any laws in College Station/Texas that ban the destruction of House Sparrow nests? I have one on my balcony and one outside my door, and they are causing many problems. I can't sleep in because the chirping is constant once daylight hits and there is lots of bird poop on my balcony and car.

What's the easiest method for destroying them?

I won't be killing any birds just the nests. Plus House Sparrows are an invasive species, so it's probably better for the ecosystem if I do anyways

If you are talking about the sparrows that build mud type nest, they are protected by federal law.
You can destroy the nest as it is being built but you cannot destroy it after it is completed.

My history is when you destroy the nest, they rebuild almost immediately. Good luck

They are nasty dirty animals.

My information came from Googling "sparrows".

I was under the impression that the birds that built the mud nests around here were Barn Swallows. We had a couple that took residence on our front porch last year, and after knocking down their nest and putting up a fake owl, they eventually won. They are definitely a nuisance with their dive bombing and gauntlet of poop.

This year we tried knocking down the nest every other day/daily and they kept coming back. However, we just put up a couple of rubber snakes on the ledge where they were building and they immediately noticed and were obviously agitated. They haven't been back for at least 24-36 hours. Hopefully this is a solution.

Swallows build the mud nests, not sparrows.

House Sparrows are not protected by federal law, as they are considered an invasive species.

Barn Swallows build mud nest. They are a protected species, and it is illegal to knock down their nest. Plus they are a really cool bird that eat tons of insect and are beneficial.

House sparrows build grass nest everywhere they can. They are an introduced non-native species. Their nest, and the bird itself, can be destroyed at anytime, anywhere.

I think that's what I said! Nice pics, though.

Growing up in the country, we called them "mud hens". They are great out in the barn but as long as they are out of the way. As soon as we saw a nest start to go up where it would do damage we got up there and cleaned it off as best we could. We ahd to keep doing that unntil they finally moved somewhere else. Dad said once they build a nest and have babies they return year afetr year to the same spot and build again so once we had them in a good spot they always built in that spot. Finally, ever so often we just had to help "new tenants" relocate to better spots. That being said, the barn was bug free and sounded like a bird sanctuary over the summer, and where we moved them to just required a hose to spary down the outside metal.
