My wife and I both thought it was excellent.

Edit:
Well heck I guess I got caught using the same name online everywhere, so I should probably put the positives that I put on that card as well so it doesn't look like you're patting yourself on the back by reading the rest of it. Technically my wife wrote that out as you wouldn't have been able to read my handwriting. I'll tack on what i think she wrote and add on some of my own.

I loved the salsa and probably could have eaten nothing but the salsa. It has a great taste with just enough spiciness to let you know it's there. To me this is the consummation of what Coco Loco's would taste like if they could have made it this good without resorting to making it spicier to cover up for the lack of taste <looks around for torches and pitchforks>. It was also served in the largest bowl of any place in town that actually serves salsa that we like. They definitely didn't skimp on it, and we were never at risk of running out, which in this case was definitely saying something. We also tried the guac, which was super fresh and just creamy enough to add the texture without covering up the fresh taste of everything else in it. The kitchen sent out a sample of the ceviche to try compliments of the house. I'm not usually a ceviche fan, but this was pretty tasty. My wife has had this at La Bodega and I think Los Cucos and would readily take this over either one of those in a heartbeat. The mango really adds to the flavor of this dish without overpowering it.

My wife got the Carnaval Chimichangas. They had a fantastic blend of flavors that is difficult to put into words. They're sweet, fruity, and very fresh tasting. If there is one complaint there it's that they're so flavorful that they make the black beans and rice served with it seem extra bland.

I got the Puro De Chorizo but subbed out the orzo roasted veggies due to being a veggiephobe. This was amazing and was a very interesting blend of East meets South of the Border. The black bean corn jicama salsa scared the veggiephobe in me but was well worth the risk. It adds a very fresh and light complement to the dish. I subbed in the Patatas con Nopalitos for a side, and these were also excellent. The cactus with these is a fun touch, and I can't tell you how excited I was that these weren't like what everyone else does around here in just tossing some onion and bell pepper in with some potatoes and being done with it.

The service was excellent, quick, and friendly, and the prices were very reasonable. Anyway, this ended up being much longer than I expected, but I wanted to temper the very minute nitpicking items we had with the overwhelming positive experience my wife and I had at her birthday lunch.

The minor nitpickings mentioned above were that the chips were a bit too thin to handle the guac and especially the ceviche without breaking. They were adequate to handle the large volume of their salsa that I couldn't bring myself to stop eating. The luck taco or whatever the name for the Mexican fortune cookie thing was that my wife got was a bit rubbery and a little odd tasting to her. Mine was fine. They were clearly pre-packaged, and we had no expectations to them or association of them with Tampico. I only mention these things to point out how incredibly minor my negatives were compared to the voluminous compliments that could be heaped upon this place.

Thank you Patty for the great review. Also, thank you for filling out the comment card. Yes, we do read them and discuss them every day at family meal. We have been looking into serving a thicker chip with the ceviche & guacamole. We were serving a thicker one last week, but it was not very forgiving. If we fried it to long it became to hard. We will be testing other chips this week to see if it will work and be sturdy enough with the ceviche & guacamole. Also thank you for the comments about the Lucky Taco. We actually get them from Michigan and we will discuss this with our vender. Again thank you for the comments, it shows us what we are doing right and the things that we need to improve on.

Welcome to our home. Welcome to our café. Welcome to our neighborhood!

The History of Tapas
The Spirit of Sharing Food, Wine & Friendship

Tapa means ‘lid’ or ‘cover’ in Spanish. It is said, the origins of modern day tapas began centuries ago at the end of a long workday. Farmers and laborers would stop at local taverns for a well-deserved drink and a slice of bread would be placed on top to cover it from flies. Over time, the idea of placing a small bite size piece of cured meat or sausage on top of the bread evolved into small dishes & bowls of tasty delights. This was the beginning of the tapas experience we all enjoy today.

At Tampico Del Barrio, our guests can enjoy an assortment of both traditional and ‘Nuevo Latino’ small dishes in the style of tapas, showcasing unique and flavorful ingredients.

Thank you Pattybrhg for the detail. Also, we would like to thank everyone that came out this weekend, we had a get crowd. Sorry, there was not enough seating in the outside Spanish courtyard by the fountains. We hope to get some more tables in the garden as business picksup. I have to say, it was a beautiful weekend to be sitting in the garden under the umbrellas, listening to the birds and the sound of the water. The comments and suggestions by our customers have been great. It definitely shows us what we are doing right and the things we need to improve on.

We had a great experience for brunch Sunday. The kids got pancakes and bacon and they were great. My wife and I each had a breakfast selection and we both thought the food was very good. As others have mentioned, it has delicious flavors that are unique to any other Mexican restaurant I've eaten at around here - and I LOVE Mexican food.

It is amazing what they have done with the place - it's really fixed up nice! I appreciate the fact that they left the old "Tampico" painted on the outside of the building too. I was going to mention that a few more tables outside would be great but I see the owners are already working on that.

You should know what the "new" Tampico is NOT, however. It is NOT the "old" Tampico. I used to just order off the steam table and get an order of tortillas and make tacos. The food is different now, but that is not a bad thing. The old Tampico was great, the new Tampico is great. If you go, be prepared for a delicious meal and a menu unlike any other I've seen in this area.

It's worth the trip and we'll be back! I'm looking forward to trying many of the other items on the menu such as the Tapas and Enchiladas.

Sorry! The new Tampico Del Barrio cafe is a small operation. We would love to be open more, but my wife and I do all the prep and cooking ourselves. My wife is at the Farm Patch shopping right now and we will be up late tonight making sauces and fillings to be open tomorrow for lunch. We will be open tomorrow, Wed thru Friday for lunch from 11 to 2 and Saturday & Sunday for brunch from 10 to 2. On the weekends we have a larger selection of both breakfast and lunch items. Hope to see you soon!

This is definitely a place to go if you want to try amazing food. I like the fact that it is not a "Mexican Restaurant." Rather, it is a fusion of Mexican, Cuban, Puerto Rican, and Asian spices. It really feels as if you were eating at your mom's, aunt's, or even grandma's place. Drinks and Desserts are great! Try their Spanish sangria and Strawberry Colada if you want a good drink...but if you're in the mood for desserts, you can't go wrong with any! My personal favorite is the Dulce de Leche cheesecake. Great Job Debbie and Rinaldo Rizzo!
