The History of Tapas
The Spirit of Sharing Food, Wine & Friendship
Tapa means ‘lid’ or ‘cover’ in Spanish. It is said, the origins of modern day tapas began centuries ago at the end of a long workday. Farmers and laborers would stop at local taverns for a well-deserved drink and a slice of bread would be placed on top to cover it from flies. Over time, the idea of placing a small bite size piece of cured meat or sausage on top of the bread evolved into small dishes & bowls of tasty delights. This was the beginning of the tapas experience we all enjoy today.
At Tampico Del Barrio, our guests can enjoy an assortment of both traditional and ‘Nuevo Latino’ small dishes in the style of tapas, showcasing unique and flavorful ingredients.
