Not sure if this will do any good or not, but at this point, I have nothing to lose. I desperately need a job to support my family. I have two kids- one in college and one in high school. I lost my job in May and have not been able to find one since. Yes, there are jobs out there- but I have a story- which many are not willing to overlook, therefore I am stuck.

I will just put my story out there for you- 20 years ago, I was a mess- I got addicted to drugs and made some really bad decisions as a result. At one point in a desperate move to help me- my family intervened and took all access to money away from me- it was at this time when I stole money to get my next fix, therefore committing a felony.

I turned myself in- pleaded guilty in court, and served my time. That was 16 years ago. I have since been clean and have tried to rebuild my life.

Unfortunately, I lost the job in May. The job was in chemical cleanup and paid a decent salary. I have experience in manufacturing, chemical disposal, paint crews, and even video work.

My past is my fault- but most jobs won’t even let me past the application phase when I have to check off “felony conviction”.

If there is anyone out there who needs a good, hard worker, I would be forever grateful to you. I am the first to admit I made a terrible choice 20 years ago- but I’ve paid for it and have changed my life. I now need a job.

I'm sure I will get a lot of BAD feedback on this- and so I'll say first off. I KNOW I made terrible choices and they are my fault from back then, but I hope people will allow others to rehabilitate and improve themselves and give a 2nd chance.

Thank you.

I have nothing to offer you but encouragement, but everyone deserves a second chance and I hope you get yours. Best of luck.

It took a lot of courage for you to post this and I admire you.

I don't have a job to offer but I do have faith in the good Lord that someone who reads your post will have enough faith in you to hire you if they need a good worker.

Keep praying and know that thoughts and prayers are coming your way.

people like you are why I believe the system is broken. Yes, we need criminal background checks, but I think there should be a time limit, just as an auto accident only stays on your record for 5 years.

If you have a resume send it to me at dallas@theshippagency.com. I will pass it around to some people.

I have a client who owns a business that does finish carpentry. They work on high-end houses, so he only hires skilled carpenters. Your story sounds similar to some of his best workers, so if you think this might be a fit, I will put you in touch with him.

Good luck.

While you're searching for work, go register with every temporary agency in town. Some allow you to do most of this online.

Will you get rich? No. Will you make enough to support yourself for the rest of your days? No.

But it will get you up in the morning and working, and this will really improve how you feel about yourself. Better still, it will allow you to network- and this might lead to a great full time job.

My boss had been in the oil business for many years. His company folded, he moved back here, and got a job as a janitor at Texas A & M University. Way overqualified, but he put heart and soul into it and something way better came along a year later.

By the way, read the application carefully. If it says Have you been convicted of a felony within the last SEVEN years or any specific number, then do the mental math. The farther in time you are from that conviction, the better off you are.

Good luck!

Can you work for the census bureau? They are currently hiring. It would be a job for a few months.

Dadsrus- I commend you on your post. That's a tough thing to put your story out there for all to see. I don't have a job for you either, but I'll keep an eye out and post here if I see anything. Would you be willing to do odd jobs in the meantime? If so, then my husband and I may be able to help you out on a very small level. Just an idea...

I can be reached at dadonboat@gmail.com

Can't work for Census, I've already checked, they don't allow anyone with a felony on their record.

Just wanted to add that I really feel for you.I don't think it's fair either that people are not able to find a job because of something they did when they were 20.
I hope something comes along for you soon!

I don't have anything right now, but do have positions come open periodically. I took down your email address and will be happy to contact you when something comes available.

Props to you for getting your life back on track. Folks like you who have been at the bottom frequently end up being the best employees a business ever had.
