What kind of products are we talking about here that you are so embarrassed about people knowing you buy?

Never mind....scratch that.

The Kroger card is a loyalty card. The card he swiped was invalid. How is this a stretch?

Its not "a stretch". Its just dumb. How about "Invalid loyalty card"? Anyway, who cares. The OP thought "Invalid loyalty" was dumb and confusing, and he's right. That's it.

Part of the reason HEB doesn't do this (and Kroger does) is because you're already overpaying at Kroger. You've paid more than the difference you're saving at the pump.

BTW, you can sign up for an HEB Mastercard to save 5 cents per gallon regardless of how much you spend in groceries at HEB. And double rewards (I think 2%) spent at HEB.

Kroger's regular price, without the loyalty is still cheaper than almost anywhere in town.

"Almost" is the key word. HEB is cheaper.

Btw, I can my card with the bar code reader

Huh?

One day I went to chik-fil-a and told them no pickles and they put one on there anyway.

I don't have to cross the bypass to get to HEB. I'll stick with my Kroger.

Not that hard to infer the meaning.

BTW

if that is confusing when you have already done it before, you might not want to drive. Traffic signals and signs might confuse you.

Kinda like the post he was responding to?

Ah, nevermind.

And this is why I buy both groceries and gas at HEB. Reasonable prices without people slowing down the line while they look for their card.

Kroger grossly overprices stuff but will sell it to you at a more reasonable price if you're "loyal" to them.

It could be worse. They could ask for your first born son.

I like H.E.B. I'm from San Antonio and that's pretty much all we had (I even worked at one in high school). They have good prices and good products.

However, I live off Barron Road. Kroger has good prices and good products and the College Station H.E.B. is in the most God-awful location imaginable. It is truly in a bad, bad location that is a pain-in-the-ass to get in and out of. If I lived inside College Station, I'd bypass the H.E.B. and go a mile down the road to the Kroger on SW Parkway, just to avoid that cluster-you-know-what.

Now, when they build that H.E.B. on the corner of William D. Fitch, that will be more convenient for me.

I'll glady pay a little extra (and use my loyalty card) to avoid the cluster that is HEB. Its like going to Wal*Mart.

I might agree that the term "invalid loyalty" is offensive. It's all in the way you say it. Kroger should have though this through a little more.
Some of the best payed execs are in consumer research and marketing. They should have delivered a better end user "product".

Thanks, Sentinel08. I missed that S while typing in too much of a hurry.

Or "to" much of a hurry as most people would say!

The parking lot at the College Station HEB is indeed amazing. Every time I feel down, I can tell myself that at least I'm smarter than whoever devised that maze.

Easy enough to get in. Getting out? Well, that's another story.

At least you're not dodging shopping carts the Kroger customers/employees are too lazy to put up/remove.

I despise the whole loyalty card system altogether and tend to avoid shopping at Kroger largely because of it.

Back at the Brookshire's in my hometown, I used to joke when they'd ask for my loyalty card. I had to respond that I didn't have one, but there needn't be any question about my loyalty to their store, as they were the only outfit in town. Usually got a nervous and slightly uncomfortable laugh. Just what I was after.

do you people with problems with the Kroger card also refuse to use a stamp card to get a free sandwich or freebirds? Do you refuse to give your email address to get coupons for special discounts?

How far do you go?

Second, do any of you know why they have that loyalty card? So that they can track your every purchase, and build a profile on your shopping habits. Just a little bit of big brother creeping into your life.

kroger doesn't know anything about me. I never had a loyalty card until the day before hurricaine Ike.

the teenager running the cash register asked me if i wanted to join, i tried to politely decline by telling him the lines were too long and i should get out of people's way.

He told me it was no problem, he would give me a card, and i could fill out the paperwork later and bring it back to the customer service counter at my leisure.

Never filled it out, and the card works just fine.

I don't really care about all the privacy stuff. We're all giving up information with every web search, email, Google search, credit card transaction, appearance in a place that is monitored with video, etc. Personally, if I can shop somewhere else and receive better prices than a place where I have to use a loyalty card, that's where I go.

FYI, I filled up at Kroger last night. When you pull up, the pump says "are you a kroger loyalty customer," if you hit "no" then you can swipe a credit card.

If you just pull up, ignore the screen and swipe your credit card, it assumes that you are swiping a Kroger loyalty card, and tells you its invalid.

So instead of getting pissy at Kroger, maybe you should read the screen, take the .02 seconds to hit "no," and swipe your card.
