Careful ... they try very, very hard to upsell you on maintenance you don't need.

Yeah, it's called drumming up business. Go in there well informed and you won't have a problem.

Pretty much all service based businesses try to up sell to increase their average sales ticket... I just hate it when they taint the whole lube industry by trying to sell people stuff they know they don't need...

But then again.... It keep their customers looking around for someone they can trust to treat them right and they will eventually find ME!! LOL

Changing your own oil is trivially easy on most vehicles. (One notable exception is some newer BMWs, which don't even have a dipstick—you have to rely on the onboard computer to tell you if your oil is low or due for a change.) The difficulty for someone like me, who lives in a very small apartment with no outdoor storage, is finding a place to keep ramps (or a jack and stands) and a catch pan for the used oil. I don't have the space, don't want my home to smell of used motor oil, and my landlord would not be happy with me if I spilled any in his parking lot.

I am well-informed, I just got tired of having to listen to their 10 minute spiel of "you need this ..." everytime I went in there, so I stopped going there.

I had my oil changed there once. I said "just the oil, don't do your check, I know what else the car needs" ... and they did the entire workthrough anyway even though I'd told them not to. In the process, they broke my air filter cover lid and a few other plastic things under the hood. When I asked them to replace those things at their cost, they refused and said they were broken before I got there.

Later I found out that they'd also cross-threaded a spark plug when they took them out to "inspect" them, which really pisses me off.

I have not been back, and would suggest that others avoid the place too.
