the phrase "happy just being average" reeks of condescension. I chose a career path that makes me happy, not one that will make me rich, which also means I will be living in an average home, in an average town, with an average family, but a family I can spend a lot of time with. And yes, that does make me happy. Makes me happier that I won't have to live next to someone who will look down on me for "settling."

A quick question, and a quick suggestion:

1. What the hell are you asking again???

2. Read "The Millionaire Next Door", and come back and ask your clearly defined question again, please.

kewlchick, a big house is not all aspire for. But when you go to neighborhoods like these you can't help but want to live like that. Who hasn't wished they lived in a small mansion at some point?

that's funny, my dad used to always say.

"Live in a house just big enough that you don't have to pay someone else to clean it."

and though he lives in Highland Park in Dallas, he lives in a smaller 80 year old house.

My dad you use to take us around to see the big mansions and would say "you see what you can have if you have a good education."

Its not like my parents don't have a big house, there house is big enough to fit in all of these neighborhoods, its just not the biggest of the bigs.

I have family in California, Connecticut, and the SweetWater neighborhood of Sugarland that do live like this.

Nope. I want my business to be able to be passed on to my children. I want to use my name and business to promote a program to assist single mothers in their daily struggles. I want to fulfill my potential as an entrepenuer. I want to please every customer, every day. I want to be the best burger in the state.

I don't care about "wealth", because it is fleeting, and also subjective.

By the way CharlieMac do you have two locations? Or is the one in that gas station closed? I want to come try your burgers.

There's always a lot of spilled Haterade on this board when the topic of living standards is brought up. Shocking.

It may cost less to live in those neighborhoods in the very near future. Out of 156 homes for sale in Bryan and College Station school districts with greater than a $325,000 asking price, only 10 currently have contracts pending.

Aggie,

Why do you feel that you have to address the landscaper that lives in PC as a Mexican? It was what it is, but come on that's low class.

yeah, bigloco1, Aggie was wrong for that one.

I'm myBCS.com-rich. I've got Internet, smoke, live in squalor (with a roommate), don't abide by traffic laws, don't vote, but I'm generally VERY cultured and know A LOT more than you.

So yeah, I'm loaded.

The advice you're receiving is outstanding. Take it to heart. All of it.

I thought you had to play select baseball to live in an elite neighborhood!

Or is it you have to live in a select neighborhood to play elite baseball?

OP, why not upgrade your sights? Forget about shooting for something in Bryan or College Station, go for something much better. Here's an example ...

Remember, an education does not guarantee a salary, success, or happiness. As far as I'm concerned the only thing required to live in the communities you mention is money. I doubt they really care how you acquire it.

A few thoughts on this:

I got stuck in the mud, I mean way out in the middle of nowhere.

I called my neighbor, and he showed up with three other neighbors in three other trucks and a cooler with cold beer. We got my truck out and solved the world's problems for a little while.

Of the four of us, there were two Aggie Rings being worn, one guy with a High School Diploma, and one with a G.E.D. All four trucks are paid off, and all four men had on wedding bands, with little ones they dearly love at their ample homes.

We all went home that night to rest, as we all had to work the next day. It never occured to me that I would not be able to call on any of them.

I will leave my neighborhood name out, but I will leave you with this. If you can find that, wherever you find that, live there. You will grow old in the company of people you love and that love you, and your kids will have a total blast wearing out the grass in the yard with all the other kids.

....and please read Financial Peace Revisited - Dave Ramsey after you read The Millionaire Next Door!

God's Peace, Chuck
