On something sorta related, can the people who have Suddenlink answer this for me- can you watch free on demand movies and shows? Everytime I go to Comcast On Demand (Channel 1 here), and go to the "free shows on demand "section and click on something I want to watch, I always get a popup saying I need to subscribe to the service. Now I am obviuosly a Comcast Cable subscriber and get the On Demand Channel, but if I cannot watch free stuff unless I subscribe to another service, correct me if I am wrong here-that is NOT free. It is false advertising-certainly misleading advertising. I just wonder if you Suddenlink subscribers have the same problem?

No, I'm on SL and can watch the free on-demand content. Not that there's much that is interesting...

okay, I looked at my bill. I can apparently go to channel 999 to get video-on-demand.

well. my tv doesn't go that high.

It requires digital cable, cheer.

but all cable is digital, is it not? it's not an analog signal.

no, should I? when I moved in last summer, I just called SL and said, hey, I need basic cable and internet. they came out to set up the internet and that was it. I just plugged in my tv and I had cable. I get channels from 2 to 72ish.

then you don't have digital cable. Digital cable is more expensive and has the guide thing (among other things I assume).

If you aren't using a Suddenlink-provided set-top box or CableCARD (with a TiVo, for example), you aren't getting digital cable. You may get local digital channels over cable if you have a newer TV with a digital tuner, but the cable channels you receive are strictly analog.

but I will continue to have tv after the digital tv switchover, so I have digital tv. and I don't think I have newer tvs with digital tuners. one tv is at least 12 years old and the other, I got from Cru. it seems to be a bit newer, but I bet it is at least 8 years old.

I'm confused.

The "digital switchover" only affects over-the-air broadcasts. Analog cable will continue to exist.

gotcha.

so, long story short... I still have tv after the switchover, and I don't have on-demand even though my bill says I do. I need to talk to SL and make sure they're not overcharging me.

You should only be paying for OnDemand if you are using it(and not watching the free options)...

I am sure they put the information about channel 999 on every bill b/c it is a new service and they want people to know its available.

I like DirecTV for the NFL package alone... I have basic analog cable as a "free" plus for having a cable modem, so that hits in the occasional place I throw a TV like the kitchen where DVR and HD are not requirements.
