First of all-

I am pretty sure that Cane's had the idea first, and part of the reason for opening right next door to Laynes was for that reason. College Station wasn't their first location, BR, LA was.

Secondly-

So Cane's should be punished for having more success than Laynes? They are a "corporate" chain because they are successful and have built thier business, Canes, just like Laynes started out with only one location in a college town.

Third-

Laynes is gross and not clean, Canes is better. Let the free market decide!

Not really. That's like saying whatever money McDonald's spends on media in B/CS has to be made in B/CS. Chains don't have to rely on foot traffic to one location. They're building brand recognition and awareness so when some B/CS family goes to Baton Rouge for whatever reason, they'll see a Raising Cane's and decide to eat there since they're already familiar with it.

This is the funniest thing that I have read in a long time. Advertise in College Station to build brand awareness in Baton Rouge? Got it.

how is canes a copycat when they are a chain that exists in several states? I like both of them, but the anti-canes people that think they are somehow copying laynes need to get a clue

I don't really care about chicken fingers. I just want to see if we can actually take this topic past two pages.........

It's for a chain, idiot. If you can't figure that out, I cannot help you. Brand awareness anywhere that brand is. Is that clear enough for you? As many people have pointed out, it's only chicken fingers, so I'm not aware of any other places this chain is. Other people mentioned Baton Rouge, so I used that as an example.

Let me know if I've confused you and I'll get some crayons and see if I can work something up you can understand.

Whoa, that is quite a temper you have. You must have already start drinking today?

Your statement makes sense for McDonalds. It does not for Canes.

I like how I mention Canes is not like McDonalds (considering 20 locations vs. 1,000,000), and he immediately compares my argument to McDonalds.

The chicken strips that come with the kid's meal at Ninfa's are fantastic!

It's just chicken strips.

You go to Ninfa's for their chicken strips?

Wow.

I heard Ninfa's ripped off Layne's margaritas, too. That's why Layne's doesn't have them.

I went to Layne's once and never went back. Wasn't that impressed. I went to Cane's and have been back about 50 times. No contest as to which one is a better product.

"Raisin Cane's chicken is never frozen."

Yeah, keep telling yourself that. I have news for ya. Unless they kill and clean their own chickens out back, their chicken has been frozen somewhere along the way. Guaranteed. Same thing with Wendy's claiming their hamburgers are "fresh, never frozen". They may not freeze them in their store, but somewhere along the supply line it's been frozen. Count on it.

And for the ppl that don't like Layne's, DON'T GO!!! That way I won't have to wait as long in line.

Hey if you really must know Cane's gets their chicken delivered 3 times a week. So if you really must know it's never frozen.

But i'm sure you worked for raising cane's jeremyd, so you know what you're talking about right?

Ok, I don't know if you know this or not but for those who don't know a food's "temperature danger zone" is 40 degrees and 140 degrees. Nothing should be set/stored between these temperatures.

Now, the chicken is killed. They take the two tenderloins from the breast plate and package them. They are stored in a cooler that has the temperature set between 32 and 40 to keep it from being frozen. They then transport it in a truck that's set at the same temperature and it's also stored at that same temperature. That is why Cane's has chicken delivered 3 times a week, because they get only enough for those business days. And if you have heard the radio ads, it's marinated 24-48 hours.

Hope that makes sense.

This thread is funnier than the ones started about BBQ. Ya'll are talking about culinary achievements so boring that even when it's bad it's pretty good. And people are drawing lines in the sand over chicken fingers?!?!

Just for the record it is difficult to get a preschooler to eat mexican food, so he usually gets the chicken strips wherever we go.

It is really hard for me to take seriously a debate about food that is readily available on any child's menu in any type of restaurant!

All that work and effort and it's still not as good as Laynes.

To end the "Which came first" argument, Layne's was first by about 2 years.

As a side note, Layne's let their website lapse, so wasn't able to get their history directly from their website.

What really makes Layne's the bomb among the college crowd has to do with the, albeit weird, 'college' experience of eating in a dump - call it the 'Animal House' syndrome. College kids, fresh out of high school and plopped down in a new town like to think they've discovered their very own 'hole in the wall' - one that is their 'special place'. These kids grew up munching chicken parts that come in little square boxes from a clown-themed chain where the entire building is made of vacuum-formed plastic. Most suburbanite parents wouldn't let their precious crumb crunchers darken Layne's door out of fear that something might crawl off the underside of a table into their ear. So when Sally-suburb is first introduced to a dump like Layne's, it's almost an act of rebelliousness, a 'rite of passage' to eat something that isn't shrink wrapped in a container that probably cost more than the food it holds. Anyone who's been to any other college town knows what I'm talking about - 'The Chicken' fits the bill as does 'Carney's' - both are good examples of places the health inspectors must take bribes at to overlook the layers of dust and grease dripping from overhead 'decorations' and fixtures.

What will take this thread to four+ pages is a list of other establishments here and elsewhere that fit this genre. I'll get things started with the following:

Bryan - Shannon's
Abilene - The Dixie Pig
Waco - Kitok's (Noze Brother's Fave)
Lubbock - Market Street Gro.(try their salad bar)

OK, that last one was a joke, but you get my drift. Laynes falls in the group, but just barely in my opinion. Frat photos on the wall are a poor substitute for really universal, generation-spanning kitsch like stuffed goats wearing sunglasses (Dave's started out in this category before it got Hodged). Anyone?

I was at the new Premium Outlet in Cypress the other day, and noticed in the food court another clone of Laynes Chicken Fingers. Its called Chicken Now: http://www.chicken-now.com/index.html

"Chicken NOW™ is a unique concept using a simplistic and fresh approach to fast food dining. We have simplified the menu to focus on "made to order" chicken fingers."

How can Rasing Canes and Chicken Now takeover this concept and clam it as their own?

This is one of the most ignorant things i've ever read on texags. TEXAGS.

guess what: your friend William-Robert did not invent BBQ, either.

some of you need to travel.
