Good god the ignorance on this thread is astounding. It's a wonder anyone wants to open up a quality restaurant at all in this town.

I've eaten at Eccell Steakhouse twice. I just don't believe the establishment will be around long, unless the product & service begins to justify the price. Unfortunately I will not be returning.
I've wasted enough money with this establishment.

And the mayonaisse you refer to was most likely an aioli. Wikipedia it before you freak out due to your own ignorance; the term "mayo" means a lot more than just Miracle Whip and many chefs use and this egg yolk/veg oil concoction on many menu items.

Not hard to get your metrosexual panties in a twist, is it?

I've travelled the world over and have sampled food from all over. All I know is that their calamari is crap.

It's true. Growing up, my mommy used to tell me everyday that I was a legend.

She also told me if I didn't like something then it's my responsibilty to fix it. This whole thread is 4 pages of people who didn't have the balls, for some strange reason, to speak up while they were at ESH and make themselves happy. Maybe you came in wanting to be dissapointed, that's the only way I can figure this.

No restaurant lets a customer pay for something they don't like, and no restaurant lets a customer leave unhappy when they first open if they can help it. Don't make exuses about wanting to be polite, or not being difficult. Do you think instead, they prefer you anonymously bash them on the internet for a couple hundred potential customers to read? If you can only say how you really feel on behind the veil of the internet then you really are pathetic. (And spare me the remarks about how this makes me a hypocrite)

you found it pretentious to offer a wine list?

No we found the entire experience pretentious. It’s in a strip mall next to a Pei Wei for goodness sakes.

quote:
the fact that you were picking on your waiter's looks seems petty and that you were having trouble to find something to complain about.

I certainly didn't have to find things to complain about. As I mentioned our experience started off with waiting 7 minutes for our waiter to greet us. The rice was awful.

It wasn’t so much his looks that were sending the wrong message, it was talking about getting wasted and doing shooters that lead me to describe him as “a frat boy in fine-dining-waiter-attire.”

quote:
maybe just a case of sticker shock.

Not really, I had looked over the menu a few times before that night and was well aware of the prices.

stick to roadhouse.

We probably will, although the steaks were not as good quality as ESH, but you knew that already.

Again, I say, we won’t go back but would say give it a try and decide for yourself what you think.

Hey Scotch --
Miracle Whip is "salad dressing" ---Hellmans is Mayo, as is Kraft Mayo....
Mayo is an egg yolk/veg. oil concoction.....so is mayo aioli?

Scotch needs to get over himself. He has no idea what those restaurants are trying to achieve. They are trying to make MONEY! In a town where A&M keeps salaries low, good luck to them.

but you will stick to the republic, which is also in a strip center.
and besides that, what does the building they are housed in have anything to do with the product they put out?

i am not refuting your opinion that your experience was sub par, thats certainly your opinion, but you have not addressed my initial question...why didnt you let someone, either your frat-star server or the management know, im sure they would have done their best to fix it. but you didnt give them the chance, you came and posted on an anonymous website instead.

RDH...this is from wikipedia

Aioli (Provençal Occitan alhòli[1], Catalan allioli) is a sauce made of garlic and olive oil. Normally egg is also added for ease of mixing. There are many variations, and one common one is to add mustard. In France, aioli is traditionally served with seafood, fish soup, and croutons. It is usually served at room temperature. The name aioli (alhòli) comes from Provençal alh 'garlic' (< Latin allium) + òli 'oil' (< Latin oleum).

Aioli is, like mayonnaise, an emulsion or a suspension of small globules of oil and oil soluble compounds in water and water soluble compounds. Egg yolk is a commonly used emulsifier but mustard and garlic both have emulsion-producing properties. So, classic aioli is made without egg, though many aioli recipes use it.

rumrunner, to answer your question, the two major issues I had were the 7 minute wait and the rice.

I did say something to the hostess about waiting for our server.

As far as the rice, I wouldn't let my boyfriend complain. So yeah I did not mention that to the server or the management.

I don't think what I said about the restaurant was all bad. There were quite a few things I mentioned that we liked ie. my steak, the dessert and drinks.

Anyway that's the beauty of an anonymous website.

You are funny--

You use Wikipedia as a reliable source? by their own admission : "The creators of Wikipedia are the first to admit that not every entry is accurate and that it might not be the best source of material,,,,"

the definition of aioli in most credible sources says it is "garlic flavored mayonnaise" for the most part.
I was simply making a point that scotch is a little over the top to indicate that aioli is something more.....and that we are all idiots for calling it mayonnaise

We should applaud The Republic and ESH for taking the local restaurant market up a few notches. Competition is better for everyone anyway. I'll take both places please!

My wife and I finally checked the place out with a gift certificate. The food was spectacular. We had the crabcakes, split a salad, split the prime ribeye, got the mac and cheese, and the strawberry tart tower. All were fantastic and more or less worth the money (crabcake maybe a smidge over the top). I loved the steak and thought it was one of the better ones I've ever had. Honestly, I think I could get the tart from eccel to go and add bananas at home and have the same upgrade on that one though.

Our service however was terrible. We were served FAR slower than the rest of the restaurant and had some just oddly stupid waiter situations. I waited tables at Chili's for a couple of years during school, and I couldn't have even gotten away with that crap there. However, while watching other tables, the service there seemed like it was pretty good across the board outside of our useless waitress.

To sum up, it's pricey and makes me feel like I overpaid, but when I think back about each expense individually, I really can't complain. The food was great and would gladly return, though I'd get up and move if I got the same waitress again.
