What are the ones in MemAg's picture and tx4guns top picture?

The little effers in my yard look a lot like those. Does anyone know if they bite. I know they will leave tomatoes with yellow dots after they start to ripen.

Do they cause any damage to homes or other vegetation.

That has to be some sort of stinging caterpillar. I looked thru a bug ID site today, and I couldn't find it. Probably b/c it's a larvae stage of some moth or butterfly.

Old Sarge,

Those are assassin bug nymphs. They have a sucker mouth that will pierce tomatoes and suck out the juices. That's why you get the yellow spots. I poison their @ss.

That's the larval form you have there. You've seen plenty of the adults...

Well at least we know what it is now. I was kinda hoping I had discovered a new species. At least I don't have to worry about killing them. But who knew they would bite?

Cloud/silver lining etc...

Have a good day TexAgs and thanks for the help.

From TX AG 88's link:

quote:
"Bites." Although an uncommon occurrence, multicolored Asian lady beetles have been reported to nibble, nip, or "bite" humans. These lady beetles are not aggressive toward humans, and they simply may be examining an unfamiliar substrate or they may be seeking moisture. Their occasional nibbling is not reported to break the skin or draw human blood.

Wimp.

tx4guns,

What is your form of poison for the Assasain Bug Nymphs?

Want to kill them and keep them off my house and tomatoes, but don't want to do any damage.

You can eat the veggies the same day as application.

I have always been a Seven Dust and Seven Spray guy. Take em down, take em out with staying power. Just don't harvest for a few days.

Thanks for the help tx4guns.

I heard the larval form of those lady bugs have much bigger appetites for aphids and such than their adult counterparts. Is this true?
