Does anyone know of a secluded pond off of HWY 6? I heard a rumor that there is a pond with big bass and cats that people around here try and keep secret.

you didn't hear it from me, but the one between Central Park and 2818 supposedly has some big fish...heard a story of a 10 lber...

btw...I HAVE not done this myself...this is word of mouth from a semi-reliable source...

gibbons creek used to let you fish on the spillway. Caught crappie and a couple of drum out there. Did they shut that down for fishing?

The last pond in the chain at the Research Park has some nice bass in it. Well, it did back in the early 90s.

Same goes for the big pond at Bryan Municipal Golf Course. We used to ignore the No Fishing signs (police didn't care) and catch some chunks out of there. Just don't eat them. The pond supposedly has high aresenic levels. Maybe that's what makes the bass grow so big.

Yes they did. I was there about a week ago and noticed the "No Fishing" signs around the spillway. You can still fish below the spillway just not off of it.

Has anyone fished the pond at Bryan Municipal lately, I have always wanted to fish it but I didnt know if the golf course would get mad for parking in their lot or what not. How exactly did you go about getting access to it? Thanks in advance.

gillom: last semester I was only taking 7 hours, so I spent lots of time golfing at Bryan muni course. Multiple times there were guys (golfers who put fishing poles in the cart) fishing around the first 3 holes - all around the big pond. Even though I almost hit them with some tee shots, I watched them catch multiple bass in the 1-3lb range. These guys had cheap tackle and were just chucking spinner baits. Guess what I mean by that is the fish in there don't see many artificial baits so it is easy fishing. I can only imagine how big of a bass there might be in there. That pond has it all - size, depth, food source (bait fish and baby ducks!) and Lord knows what the arsenic has done to those fish.

So can you fish there without getting in trouble? Maybe, but only if you want a golf ball in the back of your head. However, I'd be willing to take that risk for a double digit hogg.

Yah with the spawn coming up in the next month or so I know that the big females would love to eat my spinner bait or senko. With as little pressure as it gets I am sure it has some big ones in there. The course is like sixty or more years old I think. Thanks for the help.

There used to be a playground or park on the north end of the BMG pond. We'd park there and fish the pads or walk down the dam and fish the entire length of it. Didn't have to worry about golfballs.

Hint: nightfishing was productive as well (think topwaters).

you got some serious nads to nightfish in that part of bryan...legal or not...

and btw...as a toxicologist I just gotta scratch my head about a lake that's full of bass...yet is dangerous due to any toxic chemical (and yes I know it's As)...

Those lakes though not as bad as the one to the west of that area have very high arsenic levels so make sure to eat all you catch!

I dont want to eat them. I want the oppurtunity to catch some quality fish. The lake gets no pressure and I am sure there are some very large bass in there. I practice catch and release for the most part with bass anyway, no matter the size of the toxic threat, especially during the spawn.

Ahem... I may or may not have had a 'friend' who went out there yesterday and caught an 8.6lb bass on topwater at dusk...

Is that playground that yall park at located along south college avenue? I am just trying to get an idea by looking at google earth. I think if it is not too cold tomorrow night i might throw a top water out there for a little while.

I use to fish at the BMG lake in the early 90's and caught several bass over 7 lbs. Me and my roommate use to fish at night or early in the morning with worms and topwater. There were signs posted "NO FISHING" due to Bryan city ordinance. We had the police run us off several times and threaten us with a fine.
