It's a toss-up between Bryan Municipal or the TAMU course back in the summer of 1998 when we had like 30 straight days of temps of 100 degrees or more. They just couldn't keep the grass alive, so it was dirt fairways on both courses.

Greensworld! LOL I birdied that long Par 3 on the back once! Hit a 5-wood onto the green. I hated the squirrels out there. They'd steal your golf balls.

The great part about Greensworld was when I "had" to take golf as a class... and had to play 9 holes out at Greensworld every Friday morning... those were the days

Greensworld..thats awesome. I remember the first tee box got so bad that they laid down astroturf.

The Oaks in Corsicana. Used to play out there all the time when I was a kid, and lost countless balls (golf balls that is) in cracks in the fairways...no joke.

That is a sad thing. It's hard to believe they can't tap a bit of the agricultural knowledge that's available on campus and keep that think in great shape.

Knowing how to keep a course in shape and having the funds to do it are too completely different animals.

i didnt know people have ever played Carrizo Springs. I played my high school golf there. Not a super terrible 9-hole layout. It's terrible in the summer months. All the greens were, was sand.

Raven's Nest in Trinity-9 holes. Ownership (and name for that matter) change every other year. The course is terrible but so very cheap. I think its like $11 with a student discount.

Twin Wells off of Loop 12 in Irving... stink pit!

A few of the holes on the A&M campus back nine are among the worst...

Twenty-five years ago I played the municipal golf course at the old Air Force base in Amarillo. The ciy had let it go to hades while maintaining the very good course in town.

The course was flat, dry, hard and the grass was gone. There were really big jackrabbits all over the place and the sand in the sand traps had blown away. The water hazards were all dry. It was great in two respects: you never had to wait to get on and if you hit a low trajectory shot the ball would roll all the way to New Mexico.

There is (or was) a par 3 course in Waco that was absolutely terrible. The greens were OK (maybe even decent), but the rest of the course was rocky and where there was grass, it was crabgrass.

I've played at Twin Wells some and it isn't that bad. I think after severe weather (either hot with no rain or torrential rains) it won't be in good shape, but in the spring its OK. Layout is pretty boring, but a decent place to get in a round for a low twilight fee.

The turf program has absolutely nothing to do with the golf course!

The only Muni course in Nav is still the "old" Muni. Just because I'm bored, I'll relay the following....

What is now Pecan Lakes was originally supposed to be the new muni course. The old city council (bunch of good ol' boy golfer types) put the "new golf course" idea to a vote and it failed 3 to 1. Being the good ol' boys they were, they decided it'd be a good idea to spend a bunch of the city's money trying to figure out a way to get the vote overturned/disregarded. They succeeded and started getting bids to build the course. Of course (no pun intended), they had another good ol' boy buddy who said he could build the course for MUCH cheaper than his competition. The council chose him, knowing that he underbid the job by a lot and that they would simply approve any and all change orders he submitted to get the course complete and make a nice profit.

After much ado and many delays, the course was nowhere near complete. By this time (mid 2001), three of the five seats on the City Council were up for re-election. The citizens were pissed at the whole mess and voted the 3 members up for re-election out of office by a large margin. The new three came in and started to re-evaluate the old council's decision. In doing all of this, they discovered the "cange order" issue and that the old council had greatly inflated the "economic impact" statistics. After all was said and done, the "new" council figured out that it would cost the city a lot more money to finish the course than it would to just cut their losses and turn the course over to the developer to finish and run himself. They did just that, much to the delight of the ~99% of Navasotians who don't or can't afford to play golf.

Pecan Lakes has been and still is run as a privately owned course. I've personally never played it, but I hear it's decent.
