Spent about 15 to 20 minutes tonight watching this "big" buck being proprietary over this doe and keeping three other bucks at bay. He's a 7 pointer but has a wide rack. Two of the other three bucks were little spike bucks and the third buck just wasn't as big as this guy.Two golf carts drove through the group and they didn't scatter.

Got a picture of the biggest buck; a grouping of three with the doe in the forefront; and another with all four bucks and the doe almost out of the frame.

Not anything super exciting but a good way to kill a few minutes.

Some of my favorite times in the blind are after I have all my meat in the freezer and sitting and watching.

This is why I always keep a suppressed 300blk right next to my driver in my golf bag

Looking at the two broadside pics of the buck and I immediately started to age him.

I've got him at 4.5. What do you all think?

I'd put him at mature. He's nice and bristled up, has his ears pinned back, and his hocks are pretty dark. I'm guessing this is somewhere in the eastern 1/3rd of the state where deer are rutting right now.

It's not the size of the rack but the size of the sack that matters most.

4.5. No gut. Still lean.

He's a trophy by that metric.

You're doing it right.

I saw a pretty good deer running a doe between Brady and Eden earlier this week. She ran out ahead of him, and he came out, nose down at a pretty good trot. NOT saying "the rut is on" but he did catch a whiff of something.

We're at the front end of the rut. We've started seeing bucks running does… straight into the street. Bucks aren't paying g attention to any dangers because they're so focused on does.

I had the same problem in college.

Either that or all the pine trees gave it away.
