Was your previous corn "scented?" - the Apple Scented stamped at the top is a red flag. Using scents in feed is iffy as it can turn off some animals.

There are f- tons of acorns right now. My deer don't hit feeders hard when this happens. Not saying that's the problem so much as my personal experience.

Check into the name. El Chingon? I'd pass to if I was a deer. I guess maybe they are sensitive and said "chinga tu madre" to the corn.

I would think with a name like the one on the bag this would come from considerably farther south.

Let me guess, Michael Makara owns the feed store in Johnson City.

On a more serious note, HEB used to strictly sell Mumme's corn, if indeed they have changed suppliers.

I spread some El Chingon around my blind last weekend and the few deer that were not actively gorging themselves on acorns ate the hell out of it. The stuff I bought was not scented (other than it seemed to smell like deer corn).

I think they should change the name to "El Guapo," however.

Just saying...

The corn that HEB sold in previous years was usually Mumme's. The difference between the previous corn sold by Mumme's and the STX El Chicgon sold this year is Mumme's had a max aflatoxin amount of 20 ppb and STX is a max of 50 ppb, so STX's corn is crappier. What that also means is that the higher the aflatoxin is the higher the other mycotoxins are in almost all cases. If you feed corn and have turkey and quail around it's always better to feed the lower aflatoxin corn, higher aflatoxin levels impact their reproductive performance.

The HEB in hondo did a sale on that corn a few weeks ago and it was buy one get one free......ended up being 3.75/bag. The first day people were losing their minds and one dude even rolled up with a flat bed and purchased 20 pallets.......it was rumored he was "taking it to east texas to sell off the side of the road for $8/bag" Shortly after that they limited to 1 pallet per customer.

have not heard of any complaints from the folks that i know purchased it

I'll wonder what kind of corn is sold at the HEB's in Mexico? Maybe El Mumme's?

It's always fun when Facebook rumors make their way to other corners of the interwebs

We used this corn from the HEB in Hondo last fill-up. Haven't been back out to check the cameras, but can give feedback in about 10 days.

I wonder how many apples a deer eats on a regular basis and how much that affects their taste in corn.

My guess would be zero since we don't grow that many apples down here.

Just a thought.

We don't grow many potatoes. carrots, cantaloupes, watermelons, green beans, okra, cabbage, cucumbers, lettuce, celery, strawberries, blackberries or raspberries around here either but if it's thrown out into the front yard the deer come running and will eat every last bit of any of them. Deer are nondiscriminatory eaters in our area.
