After they have been scarce for a several weeks they have kicked off Purdy good lately up and down the coast in the passes and beachfront. Go hit the normal haunts and wrestle some big jokers. Take a kiddo and they will be hooked for life! We caught a 45" on Sunday. Go get em!

Guess that proves water temp has nothing to do with it.

Im not sure. Im mostly in the bay. But when conditions allow we have been nearshore. We were doing well on kings and sharks were everywhere....and no bull reds.

Then suddenly like flip a switch after that lil popcorn storms on Saturday.... poooooof....sharks are gone and bull reds biting well.

Not sure what offshore eddy means.... but We are catching them offshore within a few miles of the beach and in the passes and the ship channels as they make their way in. Every big weather event or front will get them going. Some of the guys set up for surf fishing are catching them from the sand.

Yep....just like deer and everything else. Same for flounder....the amount of light in a day.

Eddy,, sometimes the Gulf Stream spins off a miles wide blob of slowly rotating warmer water than gets trapped against the shore or just offshore a bit, or can even spin up an eddy of cooler water that gets pinned against the shore. It can cause an almost instant change in what is past the surf out to a few miles.

I don't know what water temps are like but I had to take our 7th grader to school this morning for football practice and it was like 72 degrees at 7am and felt like low humidity, at least what passes for low humidity in Houston, and it was glorious.

Hopefully it's not just a tease of "fake fall."

Hahhahahahahha....my mind only registered a name. I thought you were referring to a screen name of a previous poster...

Got it. Yes temps fluctuate for sure up and down the coast.

Cool front later this week. I'm hitting the jetty Monday morning to catch the early part of flounder season* before the close, and maybe the start of the red run.

*it closes 11/1, but they re starting to stack along the rocks

It does. I had a charter out of POC last week. We caught reds, trout, flounder, mangroves, black drum and tarpon. Kept a limit of bonnethead too. Best eating shark there is. The bulls will be staging. Glad you get to get on em. Let me know how yall do.

Three bull reds first thing this morning in Galveston Bay system. Tried to move out to the jetties mid morning and it was pretty rough. Eventually moved back to the first area and couldn't get another. Headed out at lunch
