I'm not much of an angler but I thought this was really interesting. Has anyone been fortunate enough to snag a gar through this harvesting process?

I've seen plenty of gar canoeing the West Fork of the Trinity but have never reeled one in for a catch and release. Curious to see if any of y'all have any gar angling stories. Most of my fishing has been up north for Walleye and Pike.

Very cool catch. I have customer groups wanting to get out to charter a fishing trip with me targeting big gar. We get some cool cactches and memorable trips. But never a hybrid like that. Congrats to that angler.

I mainly fish bays or stock tanks, so not usually a great place to catch gar but they have been thick down in the Port O'Connor area this summer.
This was a first ever gar for me, caught late at night while fishing the lights at our dock on labor day weekend. Caught on a speckled trout rig of all things, 56" fish, didn't have a scale big enough but was a really heavy fish. My cousin caught 54" one a few weekends before nearby.

I caught one at lake Conroe on Labor Day. Was a young one maybe 30" long. I cut the line did not want to mess with all those teeth.

Absolutely delicious!

Go to any fish market and gar will be some of the most expensive ... it is that good.

Sharpen your hatchet tho....not easy to clean.
