I have a 1999 20' Monterrey Montura (bow rider) with a 5.0L Volva Penta inboard/outboard in pretty good shape for its age. It is the only boat I've owned and I bought it from my father-in-law who bought it new and took good care of it.

Considering selling and getting jet skis instead as our kids are grown and we typically just zip around now and park in coves.

Anyone had any recent experience in selling?

My working assumption is that it would be tough to sell right now ... hence my question.

With summer over, the market gets heavy with family style recreation boats like bow riders, runabouts, pontoon and wake boats. Folks typically look around this time of year to sell those types of boats because summers over, kids heading back to school, hunting and football season is coming etc.

You kinda missed the season….However if it's exceptionally clean, very well maintained, low hours and is in excellent shape with no damage and has a good title on boat and trailer and it's priced right…it will still sell. The reason being, boats like that are somewhat hard to find.

Smart buyers know now is the time to pick up a deal because they are usually better priced and folks don't want to keep them another year.

I suggest listing on facebook, boat trader etc. Don't take it this time of year to a dealer to have him sell it on consignment because it will probably sit outside in the weather and degrade its condition.
Go to some marinas and post a sheet with pictures of it and a contact number.
Post it here on TA's.
As I said above, if it's exceptionally clean and in excellent shape with no mechanical issues and low hours for its age..and has a good price…. it should sell…..even at this time of year.
Good luck.

ETA: Monterrey is a good brand and Volvo Penta is an excellent quality and reliable engine and outdrive.

Boat racing is like a beautiful woman.......expensive, high maintenance, but well worth the fun!

Agreed with Gunny. Only thing to add is people listing on boattrader are reporting A TON of varying scams coming at them from all over. Just a heads up.

Wait until mid April, clean it up real nice, take good pictures and even a video. Research like boats to figure out the market value. Post it on facebook marketplace just cheaper than the like boats. I've sold pre-owned items for a living for 15 years and one thing is always true, if it's priced right, it will sell. Good luck!
