Okay, so the wife has noticed an influx of squirrels in our yard and has found the source. We have a large squirrel nest about 25' above the patio. Now that she has identified the problem she is in high gear to get rid of it. I need your advice on how best to proceed. Advice would be greatly appreciated.

She has also specified she doesn't abide by Rule #1. Thanks in advance.

Are they causing an issue? Not trying to be an arse here….especially not to you. But if you have trees you're going to have some squirrels. I guess call a tree service and have them use a bucket truck and knock the nest down….or get you a extension pole and knock it down?
Or go the typical OB solution and eradicate all the squirrels?

Or cut all the trees down in the yard. I kid I kid.

Either what Gunny said....or....put a yeeter discreeter on the end of a smoke pole and blast that thing.

Killing them in a small yard or trapping them gets rid of those, but others in the environment move in. As long as there is a population they will replenish in the environment. So if you don't want them there the solution is to deter them, trap them or kill them.
It's part of living where there are wild animals and birds.
The only way to insure there are no wild animals or birds that ever get into a yard or barn or house is to eradicate said species.
I'm certainly not suggesting or advocating that as a solution. Merely stating fact.

Tannerite.

Isn't that always the answer to questions like this?

Get a Beagle, they'll bark at them so much the squirrels just decide to move to a different neighborhood. Also works on neighbors and has a way of calling in your local HOA

We live out where there's really nothing but hackberry trees, except what we planted. Pecans, but this is really the first year it looks like they might make some. But we do have peach trees. Couple years ago, noticed a squirrel, thought, cool, how did you get lost out here. Noticed it did steal some peaches. Fast forward to this year. Noticed peaches disappearing at an alarming rate. Sitting out watching, one would run up the peach tree, get a peach as soon as they were close to ripe, run down and waay up in the elm tree and proceed to chow down. Six squirrels were doing this. So, broke out the trusty 22, and we ate well on squirrel for a while.

Or, substitute grandpa's old side by side for the beagle.

That was some strong acrobatic squirrels to pull a mature peach off a tree then carry it up another tree! Would have made one heck of a video!

consider yourself lucky they even waited for the peaches to ripen. Lot of times, they will just take 1 bite from a green peach, then move on to the next until your whole crop is wrecked.

They will dine more on peaches when it's dry for the juices and they need the sugar content also.
Living here in the Ozarks we have lots of trees in our yard. Therefore lots of squirrels.
I have 6 peach trees and 2 plum trees and I don't have any problem with squirrels or birds to speak of.
I have some covering over the bottom of the trunks and keep metal aluminum pie plates hanging on some limbs. That and my barn cat keeps them at bay.

Let them get in your attic and burn your house down then decide what to do.

What I'm saying is, it's now or never. You or them. Both of yall aren't going to live in harmony. You know what to do.

Don't forget beavers. Wives really get upset if they find unwanted beavers in or around their house. Attics or anywhere else.

Ton of trap options.

but a cap on one side and bait on the other.

I've killed hundreds of the *******s since I bought my house in '09 and spent thousands repairing damage to the house.

Briarcrest golf course here in BCS- I had a 1# bag of pistachios in my golf cart. We are walking back to the cart from the green when one of these tree rodents jumps into the back of the cart and drags said bag out and up to the top of an oak tree. On one hand I was pissed he got our snack on the other, daughter and I were duly impressed that a 2lb squirrel could carry half his body weight up a 30' oak in such short order.

A good cat?

I have told this before but I had this squirrel eating the antlers off a deer skull hanging from my fence. I like this deer skull and it pissed me off.

Our street has this big, neutered male orange cat that we raised from a kitten. He moved himself down the street but still comes to visit, and he was lying on the patio watching me throw rocks and curse at this squirrel. He was just laying there half asleep like cats do in the afternoon, but he was paying attention.

About two hours later I look outside and that cat is standing at the back door with the squirrel dead in his mouth.

I love that cat. Every time he comes around now I give him a can of wet cat food.
I don’t say this in a braggedocious way. But it’s true. I’ve been right about everything.

We live on the Rockport Country Club golf course and guns of any type are frowned on. The neighbors then become more of a headache than the squirrels.

Rubber snakes . Put them on the roof and around areas you don't want them. Works for birds as well.

I recommend a red tailed hawk. Pic is a little blurry, but this one snatched an entire nest (with some baby squirrels still in it) out of our next door neighbor's tree. Flew to a roof across the street and proceed to have lunch.

My policy on squirrels is live and let live.

Until they start getting in the bird feeders mounted on our deck rail. Then I will get after them with the pellet gun. I dispatched 3 in about a two week period back in the spring and haven't been bothered since.

12 to 15 year old boy and a pellet gun would be a top notch solution. Especially if he cleans them and then gets a plate of hot squirrel gravy and fresh biscuits.

You & your wife will have a friend for life.
