So if I have a lifetime license and had it for years, do I need to go into a store to verify my ID?

Can you do the digital option if it's a lifetime license? Seems like that would be easier if so.

It says that is required when you purchase the license. Since you already have a lifetime license, why would you be purchasing one?

For the record, I have had a lifetime combo for 20 years or so. I think I still show my DL annually to get my tags printed out for free, but maybe not? Since I only do it once a year, I forget. Is showing your DL a big deal?

Previously if you did it online you didn't have to show ID, just enter in the number. Looks like now you'll have to take a picture of your ID and upload it.

What I saw said you have to have your ID independently validated if you do it online. Does just uploading it satisfy that?

It was getting pretty convenient to just do it online.

Based on the fact those idiots can't send a duck stamp in the same calendar year it's ordered and paid for, I'm
Not uploading my DL to their craptastox website. Just this once I'll do it at academy.

So they want me to upload an image of my ID just after they had a massive data breach. So sick of the government

Honestly, my favorite activity of the year is picking up my tags at Academy with my lifetime license. The feeling of superiority is unmatched when the kid at the table tells me I need to show my receipt first and I get to respond, "No, I don't."

No. There is probably always going to be an option for paper tags.

Has to be a paper tag for redfish.

You can thank the folks who have abused the system for this new requirement.

Is that right? I thought you can do digital for everything now?

We have been tagging oversize redfish digitally on the app for years. In fact can buy your second tag on the boat when you catch your second fish if desired.

If they get rid of paper tags and make everybody go digital, my status as a law abiding hunter is likely to change. Because F the digital crap, especially when you have to......make a paper tag anyway.

So so so so many states have been all digital tags successfully way before Texas. Its a good change. Digitally tagging and then completing the logs is very simple and easier to comply for the average idiot.

It is not a good change. It is an absolutely crap change.

Like I said also - with deer, you digitally tag the game then you have to affix an actual tag with the digital tag number given to you when you digitally tag the game to the deer. So you have to paper tag it anyway. It's fuggin stupid as hell.

Paper tagging isn't hard. Fill out the information, apply the tag, fill in the log on your license. If you can't do that, you don't need to be hunting or fishing anyway and probably need to go play on train tracks and do the world a favor.

It's also a miracle that before tagging GW's would almost never show up to places, but once digital tagging started and people started using it, Mr. Green Jeans magically appeared as if a ghost walking out of the corn in Field of Dreams.

Hard.Pass.

Twenty+ years ago when I bought mine, a lifetime license was a rarity and confused the guys at the local gun shop who didn't know how to enter it. It has gotten better, aside from the confused look at Academy that you mention.

I refuse to go the online/mail route to get my license because there is an added processing fee. I bought the lifetime not to have any more fees, so I go get it in person, which is a mild inconvenience.

I told my son, and incoming cadet, that I might disappear during his move in on the 15th to grab my license

Duck stamp process in Texas is just as stupid. It costs me more to buy it in store from a sporting goods store here than to buy it online from a different state and that includes shipping. Post office *******s never stock them in West Houston.

What do they do for people that do not have a smart phone? My dad doesn't have one and he is not going to get one.

All digital? You mean mandatory?

Exactly 0 states have digital-only hunting and/or fishing licenses. Every single US state has an option for a physical paper version.

Go buy a in person and get one printed physical license in hand. Thats what its for.

Correct. I should have been more accurate to say that many states have the option to go all digital for their license and tags and have been that way for many years.

Yes you can get a physical printed license in your hand if that is your preference.

Agree about warden showing up. We have had guys do digital tags the last few seasons and magically the game warden shows up that night. In years past before the guys started digital tagging he may show up on opening day and check licenses but it's all too convenient that when someone uses a digital tag he has shown up on multiple occasions.

Been using digital tags since they started and still have never had a warden visit me in the field. Even hunt on an FM road and have seen the warden drive by and wave.

Interesting to note, I don't stay the night where I hunt. If I did, I might have received a visit from a warden. I have tagged deer digitally morning and night. Haven't specifically rushed off the property after tagging but obviously don't hang around either.

Building a cabin onsite in early 2027 so can test this theory next hunting season

Ive heard a lot of firsthand reports of it happening. Enough that it's unlikely to just be coincidence. Suspect it would be a tactic used by some wardens but not by others.

First year getting the digital duck stamp. Does it show up in either of the Texas OA or Texas Hunt & Fish apps?

My license is in both, but it doesn't show the duck stamp. Should it?

It shows up digital for me on the app. You can now add to your wallet for iPhone which is pretty convenient.

Thx. I'll give it a couple more days before I worry about it. I don't have a digital wallet, but I did see I can add it to one. For now, I just have a screenshot of it with the QR code, hopefully if I get checked its by a tech savvy GW.
