What is Galveston on July 4 like? I've been there many times, but never on July 4. Our visit will cover wife's birthday. Going with daughter and SIL. Anything to do while I am there? I'm a West Texas old.

My parenyts used to have a beach house on the west end and I spent many summer holidays down there.

Crowded but all depends on the weather how the beaches will be. Sargassum is bad this year.

Definitely visit the Bryan Museum. It's a hidden gem. Being from West Texas, you'll love it.

I don't have any experience with July 4th in Galveston, but I've had friends go fishing with SGrem (he posted above) and it was a great time for them. One of them posted on here a couple months ago praising Grem and the experience. So I wanted to second Grem's post. Here's his website:

Regarding Galveston on the 4th - it's not terrible but that one of 3 weekends I avoid the water all together (in the boat). We stay on west end and stay out of anywhere behind the seawall that weekend if possible. It's not that bad just way more traffic than normal and no reason to really leave our safe haven.

Plenty of fun things to do on the island though.

Battleship Texas will be going a drone show, fireworks display, and pyro sim-fire of the big guns on the 3rd

Kemah will have a great fireworks show out on the bay. Charter a fishing trip and watch the fireworks from the boat out on the bay.

Are the fireworks just outside of Clear Lake channel at Kemah? We always just stay at our place in crystal beach and watch from upstairs deck, but this would be cool. However new baby likely means this is not an option this year

Growing up on the beach I avoid it at all costs on most holidays, but especially on Memorial Day, July 4th and Labor Day.

Granted, a lot of that is because Galveston put the hammer on restrictions on the beach and it directed the crowd they didn't want over to Surfside. But I will never forget the things I saw after dark on July 4th when I was 16 and working at Beach, Bait and Tackle. Educational is an understatement.

Ain't no way I'd head to the island for the 4th unless I had my own place separated from the influx of the typical holiday crowds.

Exact 3 weekends I try and stay off the water down there. I've had 2 extremely close calls in the boat with people parked in the middle of a channel, including once at night with zero lights on.

It also just sucks to wade fish with that many pot lickers down there...
