Ha, when the wind blew that little piece of straw behind his tail and he saw the movement he went to full alert in a split second.

I need to let that cat go in my attic for a couple of hours.

owner needs to capture those genetics somehow, through breeding or cloning, and share the wealth. Love a good barn cat.

Looks like that cat really had a "field" day!

A good cat is highly undervalued for rural homes. We have one that has an affinity for copperheads. Back before they disappeared from our property he would sometimes stack 2 or 3 shredded copperhead remains on our porch.

We had a Tabby when I was a kid that anytime we heard some kind of "scurrying" around in the attic, we would let the cat up there.

Without fail he would come down a little while later with mouse in mouth.

I probably wouldn't believe "and arranged them" part but I've seen a Jack Russell do the same thing once where we hunt.

My jack russel would put his kills by the back door so they could be seen… they are proud of their work

My Brittany would catch and kill moles and stash them under my pillow for me.

We have two cats that are mainly outside. They are always bringing their kills to our door. Usually half way eaten.

They're little killing monsters. Don't bring them up around Aussies, as they are decimating EVERYTHING. Billions of indigenous animals/birds killed YoY.

Love them or hate them, cats are apex predators regardless of their size. I respect them.

Relevant Oatmeal link

They're nature's serial killers, and we welcome them into our homes.

Maybe not "apex" - aunt near Ballinger had a barn full of them. Between them, geese, and the guinea fowl, they had a clean homestead from unwelcome visitors and vermin. Coyotes made a house call, zero cats after that. Maybe a dozen or so. Gone overnight.

When I say "cat," I'm not just referring to a house cat. I'm talking about all cats (house cat all the way up to a lion). Size difference between a coyote and a house cat is pretty drastic. Coyote vs a bobcat or Lynx or any other similar sized cat and it would be completely different, especially solo. Where the yotes and dogs in general excel is doing things as a pack. I think lions are the only cats that do things in packs.

Gotcha. Steve Rinella was talking about in the mountain states where wolves have started to increase their numbers, we're seeing ungulate populations take a nose-dive in populations. Has to be the wolves, right? It's the amazing, solitary hunting lions. Being so efficient, wolves are being more opportunistic and just chasing lions off their kill. Forcing them to go out and kill again. Rinse, wash, repeat.

Even has a cool name: kleptoparasitism.

I would speculate that lions use packs to hunt is out of necessity. Their prey can be enormous. A male lion weighs around 500 pounds but just one prey, the water buffalo, can easily weigh 1500 pounds or 3 times the largest lion. Many other prey are as large or faster so working as a team gives them an edge other cat species do not need.

Back to house/barn cats the OP picture does not show the same amount of tweety birds they kill as well.
