Yeah, if out-o-reach of a pole saw, the hired guys are WORTH the $$$$$$$
but .....

What makes trimming limbs 17ft high max with a
EGO Power+ PS1000/PS1001 a GOOD idea? ($400)

Otherwise, USPS/others will not travel this 100yd
tree-line gravel driveway, as well as 911 ambulances

In high school I spent hours in the bucket of a tractor with a chainsaw trimming branches. I can count on all 8 of my fingers how much money we saved.

The only good part about it will be the money saved. Pole sawing stuff that high sucks, but I'd probably end up doing it myself.

Rent a Cherry Picker. If you don't have a truck rent one from Home Depot.

DO NOT TRIM OAKS RIGHT NOW

You are risking oak wilt if you do.

Oak wilt, caused by the fungus Bretziella ***acearum, thrives in moderate temperatures and is most active during spring and early summer, with the highest risk of transmission when daily high temperatures reach approximately 60F or higher. While the fungus thrives in moderate weather, temperatures above 90F to 95F generally inhibit its growth and kill the fungus in smaller branches.

Basically, the time to trim oaks is when it is too cold to want to be working outside trimming or way too hot to be out trimming.

Now for your actual trimming ability and saving money... it depends on how much and the diameter.

Theres some good pole saws that are really sharp and would typically service residential needs without being too expensive. Otherwise, I'd go with gas powered and likely a stihl. You might pay as much and do it yourself but you're going to have a tool instead of paying somebody else. You might need a chainsaw as well though if you need to stack for a trash company to take away in the event youre not disposing or using for firewood

I second the rent cherry picker if you going DIY.

I personally will not climb a ladder to trim. That advice was given to me by an emergency crew member after I got hit by a tornado. Limbs pretty high wet broke and hanging. YMMV

No one would laugh if you hired someone. If DIY look at a large telescopic boom lift (sometimes called straight boom lift).
