I used to have a neighbor, I'd see small packages arriving everyday for about 18 months, then. a Jeep would roll out of his garage.

This is what our house is like currently. Rockauto daily deliveries!!

Not really. I titled some of mine in the late 70's. (78-79). He just didn't get to the right person.
I had one that I bought from a very old gentleman in Fredericksburg. WWII MA model. Early WWII. What they called a slat grille.
He only gave me a bill of sale.
All military jeeps had a specific serial number stamped in the top of the frame on the drivers side of the vehicle…in the engine compartment.
It was hard to see and usually covered with rust/dirt. It matched the data plate that was riveted to the dash.
However, about 90%, of the jeeps sold surplus….. has those data plates missing.
So the only way to identify a number for the jeep was that obscure number on the frame that most folks don't know is there.
Anyway I took the bill of sale to our county tax office and got an application for title form. Then they told me to bring in a picture or proof of that serial number on the frame.
The old way of doing that was taking a piece of paper and scribing with a pencil over it.
Then our local sheriff looked at it and approved it.
I did that for a couple of jeeps, and HMMWV's. Always was pretty easy.
Also if you register them as antique vehicles and license them as that it's simpler to get inspections typically.

I made an effort to build a "Goliath" jeep out of a 66 GMC 3/4 T 4wd truck I had and was tired of. I took the body off, shortened the frame and made a jeep replica body scaled up from original dimensions I got off of a buddies 48 jeep. It was a beast to drive, 454 BB, 420 granny 4 sp and 4:56 gears front and back. I never really got it finished before I was onto the 37 in front of the first pictures. Don't really have any good pictures but these are the ones I could find

These older rigs have tons of character. If you're interested in a rig with fuel injection, I've been toying with selling the 1997 wrangler I bought in college (2001, maybe). Mechanically very well kept. Not the best cosmetics. Black, full doors, manual, 4.0L, with back soft top.

Visiting Gunny World ranks with Crystal Bridges, Bass Pro HQ/Wonders of Wildlife, Silver Dollar City and The Walmart Museum for best things to do in the Ozarks. But the food is much better and I'll take you fly fishing if you visit Gunny World.

My cousin and I found one in an old barn back in 1968. Offered the farmer $100 for it. That was all the money we could scrape up!

We got it running and had the best times of our lives.

I've got a friend that has a Navy blue Ford Jeep sitting in their barn. Was a hunting rig until it wouldn't start. I've tried to buy it from them but they ent budge so there it sits.

I'm in a decision paralysis moment debating between fixing up an old '58 CJ5 sitting at our ranch or buying a used Honda Pioneer. The CJ would be a fun project for me and the kids, has cool factor, but rough ride and limited space/can't fit 4 people plus thermal gear. The pioneer I could trailer anywhere, can beat the **** out of and will be easier on my back but is expensive. I'm leaning pioneer currently but not 100%.

One of my brothers was always buying this and that but did not do restoration like so many folks do. Tinker with things for awhile, sell them, buy something else. He had a Willys jeep, seems like it was a model from the war years or shortly after, 1940s though. He wanted to sell it but at 6'3" the leg room was an issue. I bought a pickup and a boat from him, wish I had not, lol. I do wish I had bought that Jeep for the kids and grandkids though.

I've had this m151 for 20 years and I reckon my kids will have to sell it when I'm dead because I'm sure not selling it. The independent suspension makes it the best riding of the "military jeeps". They can be cantankerous just like any other old jeep but parts are still available and plenty of folks still running them.

You need one! My grandad gave me his old one he bought in the 1950's. It was my mom's daily driver when she was in high school. It was in horrible shape but I've slowly been fixing it up.

Mine is a 1943 Willy MB. Fun as hell to drive. Like a little tank!

Your are so right. As I said above, that of all I had, the MB, GPW, M38, M381, and M151A2......the M151A2 rode the best on ranch roads. I could not tell from your picture....what M151 variant is yours? M151, M151A1 or M151A2? I can tell it was never cut...or if it was somebody did a damn good job of welding the body halves together!

Nice looking MB. I have never seen one with modern wheels and larger tires on it. I bet it makes it ride and handle well?
The old original bolt together split wheel wheels are hard to find now. If you do find originals they sell for like $300 each! They were made that way so tires could be changed in the field easily by soldiers without tire tools.
Looks like the driver side was cut out for a more modern convenient gas tank fill. The original MB's you had to lift the seat cushion up to fill the tank.
Again, nice MB sir.

M151A2 uncut and mostly original minus my fabricated grille guard and roping seat. Pictured below.

I've got another one that is a totally built body on A2 frame. My great uncle built many of them in the 80's and 90's from parts bought at government auctions with both fabricated bodies as well as welding cut bodies back. It is one he built for his older brother, my grandad. Fabricated body looks very similar to the encore bodies but these were custom bent locally. It will be a project for me and the kids very soon.

Outstanding! There was an old fellow named Leo Porter that lived up by Arlington. He was an old school guy and I dealt with him for many years on buying surplus jeeps and also a couple of M715's. I had so much fun with him. He had about ten storage containers full of parts for all military jeeps. He was funny...he would not sell a part to anybody that was modifying or destroying the old war horses for deer lease jeeps. He would make you give him pictures of your jeeps and the restoration progress before he would sell you any parts.
I bought two uncut M151A2's from him. I sold one and kept one. When I got out of the jeeps altogether I sold the M151A2 back to his son.

Cool on yours sir. I also like your shop. Wonder if your grandfather knew Mr. Porter?

One can never have too much shop. If you think you need 20 by 30 make it 30 by 60.......
