Pop a couple of Benadryl into a hunk of spam and toss it to Pepe. Give him a few hours to eat it and knock out. Then relocate him.

I have an idea. Instead of covering the trap with a tarp, cover yourself with a tarp . Let it spray you and then chunk the tarp! Please report back after

Tyvek is not vapor proof. You'll stay dry, yes... But you'll still stink. You do not want to know how I know this.

Here's my plan. Surf rod, heavy test line and big treble hook. From a safe distance, cast the treble hook at the cage from the canal side of the rv. Hook cage. Open spool and somehow get it to the other side of the canal. Reel in the trap until it is in the canal. Leave in canal a couple days. Skunk gone, eat blue crabs.
And, please post video.

Don't do this.

In late on this.

Many years ago we had a skunk burrow under a concrete slab for a greenhouse. I pounded 3ft high boards on the sides of the hole and made a path into a trap and tied 50 ft of rope to the trap. Two days later success. Kind of. As I pull the rope trap gets hung up in St. Augustine and skunk goes crazy, we smell it and stop. I ran to Harbor Freight and got a tarp, covered myself with the tarp and walked up to it slowly and flipped the tarp over onto the trap. I slowly rolled the trap into tarp taco style and folded the ends down and put it in the bed of the truck. We then started thinking on how to release it. We doubled up on dishwashing gloves and heavy garbage bags and off to the countryside. Set it all on the ground, bagged and gloved up I stuck my arm in and released it. Skunk would not come out, we had to unroll the tarp to where he could see us to want to get out. Ended up leaving everything right there in the ditch. I thought I could still smell it but no one else could.

About 30 years ago had a skunk take up residence under a feed/tack room that had stalls on either side of it. The stalls had large troughs under windows in the tack room. I had crawled under one of the troughs in an attempt to get a shot at the skunk when my grandmother let her dog out of her house. The dog came in from the opposite stall and got into a fight with the skunk who proceeded to spray me in the chest and sprayed the dog. I can't begin to describe the intensity of the odor. As bad as the odor can be when you pass one on the Highway, it's nothing compared to taking a direct hit. The dog was literally doing somersaults and puking at the same time. I was heaving and wrenching, but didn't puke. Immediately had an intense headache. Tried every remedy for cutting the odor , but still had a faint odor of skunk two weeks later. Decades later, if I catch a whiff of a skunk, I start heaving. I will never mess with a skunk again!

Two ropes w/hooks. Hook one end to one side of the trap throwing from a safe distance. Take out slack and tie to a tree.

Repeat on the opposite side and tie to your trailer hitch.

Drive slowly away, that wire should rip apart and free the skunk.

Or shoot it.

I've done this a couple times before with a live trap and had no issues.

Step 1 - attach rope to live trap
Step 2 bait/set live trap
Step 3 catch skunk (you are here!!)
Step 4 use big tarp to hide you and move slowly towards trap and drape over
Step 5 pick up trap slowly and move to nearest water(I even transported in truck bed with no issues)
Step 6 drop trap in water
Step 7 pull up rope and remove dead skunk

Obviously you won't have the rope but should still be able to just tarp it and drop it in canal then just figure out a way to retrieve your trap. Just go slow and keep tarp in front of you and you will be fine. Don't let it die in the heat. That's awful.

I would do this, but leave it in the water for a few days. Free crab bait!

My 95 year old grandpa catches them all the time under his house. He has transformed an old weed eater box into a riot shield that he uses to get close to the box before covering it in a tarp. He puts the whole trap in the lake and - in his words - he "teaches it to swim."

Incorrect.

I tell you you don't want to know... But you don't want to listen...

Back 2011 or 2012 abouts. Local PD gets a call for a well-fare check in a local low rent apartment complex due to an odor coming from an apartment. PD shows up and immediately called the vol FD for assistance.

I suited up in a good Tyvek suit, gloves, and rubber boots, taped up etc and on air.
Guy was about 5'10" 280lbs and blown up like a week old pig. He had not yet popped, but had absolutely started leaking, was in a puddle of himself, and covered in flies on the kitchen floor. The summertime AC was not keeping up and it was in about the mid 80s in the apartment.

We get him bagged up, onto a gurney, and loaded into the funeral home van.

I went outside and was washed off, then unsuited. I quickly realized I was NOT going to be able to return to work in my current condition. I drove home with every window down. When I got home, i parked in the driveway, left the windows down on the truck, and went straight to the garage to strip down and start every stitch of clothing I had on in the wash. I then went straight to the shower.

The odor of that apartment absolutely 100% permeated that Tyvek suit. Liquids cannot penetrate it, but vapors can.

Update time, tho not a very exciting one.

Got down there early this morning and found the skunk still alive and well. My confidence on being able to deal with the situation very quickly retreated. The trap was pushed far enough up under the RV that I couldn't get it covered with the tarp, so i decided to go plan C and shoot it.

I guess the first shot was a good one because he didn't spray. I think it still released something because there was definitely a bit of a skunky smell, but not like a full on spray. I was able to get it removed from the trap and tossed it into the canal. It was bigger than I expected, looked about the size of a well fed house cat.

Unfortunately to lessen entertainment value even further, I left this morning before the suit showed up. On the plus side, I can be walter white for Halloween now.

A couple of things that were a good lesson for me:

1. Don't leave out a trap of any kind unless you want to catch something in it, even if there is no bait.

2. The .22 I used had been in the back of the safe ever since the place I used to shoot it at was sold. Wasn't ever a range gun. I had moved since then and a lot of time had passed. I was not confident at all that it would still be sighted correctly. Luckily, it still was. Reminded me that as a tool, it is only good if it is in proper condition.

Thanks for all of the suggestions - and the fun skunk stories. Please keep your own skunk stories coming!

I'd shoot it with a suppressed 22 then go back a few days later to move the trap.

Maybe one of those big plastic deck boxes (like for pool toys) would be a good addition to your site. Keep your trap in that to keep from catching something you don't want to catch. Or a portable shed type thing.

In your defense about leaving a crab trap out. I don't think many people would have foreseen this situation. Everyone that I've ever known or seen with crab traps stored them outside. Whether that be one or hundreds.

I'm late to the party but could you have hooked up to the RV and moved it so the trap was out in the open?

Dupont makes two products:
Tyvek suits and Tychem suits. Tyvek is breathable but stops water or splashes. That's why the material is popular as a house wrap.
Tychem is not breathable and stops vapors.
We are required to use Tychem suits in the boat manufacturing business due to exposure to styrene and other vapors in fiberglass boat manufacturing.
Both are available at box stores like Home Depot.
So if you're going to mess with skunks get you a "Tychem" suit.

Well we have all now learned that skunks, or I suppose other animals as well, can get caught in them as they smell like food the animals eat. Remove the "food" source and problem solved.
