But the "bib-less overalls" made of indigo died heavy twill that we all love were invented in The West (California IIRC) for drier climates. Sometimes what works best is something else.
Had to Google that. California sounds right

I have a pair of the Brion, which is what they used to call the the non-cargo pocket version. I don't even remember when I bought them but it has to be over 10 years ago. They have been my go-to rock climbing and cool weather hiking pant for all of that time and still look good enough for occasional office wear.

we are going to be in Yellowstone and Grand Tetons. I am wanting to buy for that trip specifically and then get follow on utility. So I am thinking enough to be warm in the early mornings and for when we rent a boat on lake yellow stone. But cool enough for hiking. And dry enough for rafting.Gunny456 said:
What's wrong with wearing jeans hiking? Fishing and wading I'm wearing shorts.
I'm just giving you a hard time too!

WTF happened to just wearing jeans?! Good grief. And what happened to the red-blooded American man?!?!
120 degrees outside?! I'm wearing blue jeans.
-20 degrees outside?! I'm wearing blue jeans.
If I ever find myself, as a grown ass adult male, asking an internet message board "what kind of pants should I wear for normal weather" may God himself smite me down
I joke
Kind of….

Spent most of my career in a hot production environment and wore jeans through it all. Hated how heavy and wet they would get when you were sweated down but wouldn't be caught in anything else.
After getting a few pair of synthetic "hunting" pants for elk hunting , I really noticed a difference. Found the wranglers at Walmart and now I don't wear jeans for working in the yard or everyday wear kicking around the house. The jeans are for going to dinner and out. And the Wranglers aren't different than the name brands except you can buy 3+ pair for price one of the brand names.

I also have a couple of the wrangler AT pants. I like them for hiking and camping. A bit heavier than fishing pants but still light weight and comfortable and relative quick drying.

I've been pretty happy with some pants I got at Academy last year.
Magellan Outdoors Men's Heritage 5 Pocket Pants
98% cotton. Not as durable as blue jeans, more durable than most "hiking" pants.

They are a little more abrasion resistant

I'll give a strong 3rd reco on these. If you're flexible on colors, you can sometimes find them on Amazon for less than $25 too! They're a heavier canvas-like material and not completely water repellent.Ragoo said:these looks exactly like what I am looking for. How do they handle water?DargelSkout said:
I like Wrangler all terrain cargo pants. I know you said no cargos, but they are not the typical style of cargos with the big pockets. Just a small zipper on the side of the pants. Which I don't even use. I thought they wouldn't hold up well because they're pretty light weight. But I've put them through a lot over several years, and they've held up well.

Bib-less overalls are how Levi's first marketed their jeans
