I have a tree that died. It's an elm. It was planted in the 70's by the wife's grandfather. I think o can get two or three 2x6 out of a 10' section. Grain is tight and straight. It would be nice to make at least a small table top out of it but I need someone to mill it.

Is this a thing? What can one expect to pay for such a service?

Thanks! It might be a dumb idea or cost prohibitive but I figure I can cut it into pieces later if it doesn't work out. Cant put it back together after the fact though.

Greenwood Milling is a great shop. I haven't used them for this specific work you're asking about, but I do know they take fallen trees and mill them out.

Typically it'll run you about $150-$250/ hour for someone to mill it.

Another option is to call the Woodcraft store in SA and ask them who is cutting in the area. The wood nerds there will definitely have a name to call.
