One of my best friends and a veteran died last week. He had two pits or pit mixes that he adopted after their mother abandoned them on his property about a year ago. They are now stuck in his mother's (only immediate family member) home and she is elderly and has some physical disabilities and can not handle them. I live in a small house with no fences and have a small child that I'm not comfortable having pits around, so living with me is not an option. I'm trying to help her to the best of my ability to handle his final affairs.
They are approximately one year old females, sisters, not sure if spayed, are housebroken but one does chew on stuff. Never bitten anyone but will bark at my 3 year old. The white one is believed to be deaf. Other wise they are pretty sweet and loving, just don't trust them around small kids.
There's no shelter in this county, but I'm calling a rescue tomorrow. Any other ideas?
