I guess you just don't take a multi million dollar aircraft, paid for by the taxpayers, on a military mission, land on private property to pick up a shed antler.

Only had to my knowledge BP, DEA, Mineral operator land helos on my place in Encinal. But if they removed one shed that doesn't end up in a tire, I've got to extend my gratitude.

You don't now. Reading some books and talking to some old farts, I think it used to be common.

I know of a B-17 pilot and a WASP who both buzzed their hometowns during WWII. I'd bet they were not alone.

But only the WASP ended up with her daddy calling her to chew her out.

I have no problem with the guy getting fined, having to compensate the landowner somehow and getting a serious slap on the wrist from his unit's HQ.

I don't think it's the end of the world and he shouldn't wind up with a record over it. It's not like he landed in the parking lot of the tiddy bar and went in for some shots and a lap dance.

I can't say I'd have a problem with that either

My grandfather used to buzz the Louisiana State capitol in his P51 on training flights to say hello to my grandmother while she was at work.

Friend of mine owns some property adjacent to the NG armory in Brownwood (the armory is 14,000 acres, formerly part of Camp Bowie).

There was a helicopter that sat down near his fence line hard enough to set off some sort of transponder and alerted Fort Hood. Supposedly the pilot tried to cover it up & the black SUVs showed up a few days later at my friends house to investigate the "crash".

Probably tough to get away with stuff like that these days. Vietnam era guys probably did not have such oversite.
