Update:

The investigator did get the phones but has to wait about a week or so to get a warrant signed to try and get into them.

In other news, he made bail yesterday so he is back out. Not sure on court date for Grayson County, Texas.

ETA: I also found out that he is affiliated with a local gang down there. I suppose that is not surprising however it definitely is unnerving. The deputy of the sheriffs office down there did not seem overly concerned about it

I'm assuming as an investigator he did preservation orders for the phone acct, etc.

He needs the cell tower preservation order ASAP, to help track down your equipment.

Yes I think he put in for the cell tower one already last week or early on.

ETA: you say that the DA/sheriff don't have say over extradition, in state they absolutely do. The sheriff can say "we aren't paying to transport people from more than X distance unless it above X level charge). Some counties are notorious for dragging everyone back, some notorious for not. It just depends.

Fair enough. I know there isn't any formal extradition process between TX counties, but a criminal court judge has influence and can request Sheriff to send deputies to another county. Unfortunately, felony theft probably doesn't rise in most cases.

This is where County Commissioners Court and a tax paying constituent comes in.
