What do yall do when a neighbor is hunting danger close? Less than 300 yards

Blind is 200 yards or so from fence line.

Feeder is 100 yards and theyre lined up with the fence. Our road runs along fence line.

They put this blind and feeder up last year. This is in west Texas and family who lives in town/runs livestock on the ranch talked to them and they said they weren't going to hunt it.

Was out late for hunting tonight so I was just going to drive out and glass the closest feeder. I had to drive by where the neighbors close blind was and it looked like windows were open. Went back to the house and got a spotting scope to see if anybody was in the blind while being 800+ yards away. Definitely occupied blind.

I was tempted to take my Bluetooth boombox and a 6 pack to the fence line. I wisely chose against this since I do value still being alive. Did call family in town to see what he had to say, no answer. My next option is calling the game warden. No problem with the game warden and actually havent met him since he's new but of course there's always stigmas too.

Sort of venting because it is so frustrating but also rattles me too since I've driven that road/fenceline hundreds of times since they put up the blind that they were supposedly not hunting. Currently leaning towards calling game warden in the morning since they've been dishonest or there's been miscommunication already.

Why put up a blind if not going to hunt it. Of course they were going to and the knew they going to. No reason to put a blind and a feeder together as decoy. Trebuchet and a few rocks lofted in their direction could be fun.

Ha well, yes.

However they were talked to before season last year when they said they understood and wouldnt hunt it. Never saw them hunting it either. BUT things change entirely since it is still there and being hunted.

Eta: yes, I've strongly considered launching projectiles and putting a giant sign on the fenceline but didnt want to catch charges or seem like an ahole if they hadn't actually done anything wrong besides stupid placement

While kind of a dick move, unless you can prove they're shooting across the property line, I don't think there is anything you can do about it. I get you're frustrated but unless I am just that ignorant to the law, no law is being broken

What exactly do you hope the game warden will do?

Here is one for ya.

We are left of the green fence line. Red dot is neighbor's feeder. Yellow is approx location of their blind.

If they shoot and miss (possibly even with a pass through depending on cartridge, shot placement etc), they are discharging over property lines.

I have no doubt the game warden will give them hell. But then again, I'd be number one on future game warden check ins

I'm sorry guys, I let this one slip. The only OB approved solution is to build a high fence.

Again, I hear you but it's not about what if it's about what you can prove…

I'm all against hunting fence lines like this but this is just the nature of having neighbors. ****ty people do ****ty things

Are you sure this isn't a propane cannon scenario?

In with the high fence suggestion.

High fence has crossed my mind. This is an old fence that is falling apart and they (the inheriting kids) have disputed the fence line since long long ago there were arrangements made that were the easiest to fence going down into canyons.

Been trying to get them to chip in anything on redoing the fence with no luck and if the blind/feeder stays then itll be the only high fence on the entire ranch

I am confused by the description of the layout.

Are they shooting down a fenceline on their side of the fence or are the set up where if they shoot there is a high potential for the bullet to cross the fenceline?

If it is the first scenario - you are getting pissed off for somebody doing something perfectly legal on their won land simply because you dont like it.

If its the second, they are *******s.

They are set up to shoot directly across the fenceline if they miss or have a pass through. Guaranteed to cross property line. If I had known they were in the blind before peeking from far away with a spotting scope, they'd have been able to see me flipping them the bird without binoculars on the fence line. Our main camp is probably 1500 yards downrange too.

Is there something obnoxiously colored/scented etc that you could place on your side of the fence right behind their feeder ? Something they'll see everytime they hunt and or detract wildlife

I can be there till close to Christmas (and then shortly after) with some gangster rap blaring. However, I'm trying to avoid being shot and would prefer to be hunting.

Before this even got confirmed I had thought of getting sheets of plywood sprayed with "2 close" or "200 yd fence" etc but they already know they are damn close

How about this picture with the caption "The blind is too damn close" on a giant poster board?

Red blind, blue feeder, yellow fenceline (or kinda close to it but you can see it)

Just start using that fenceline as your latrine every time you are out there. Maybe go to a hair salon and ask for a bucket of hair to scatter into the wind next time the wind is blowing their direction.

See I dont understand why people do this. Why would you not put the blind where the feeder is and feeder where blind is. At least they would not be shooting toward that fence. We had one once where the neighbor put a feeder in a corner on the edge of their property. There was not way they could not shoot our way. When I mean in the corner I am talking 30 yds off each fence line.

My experience is that it is usually people who have not managed the habitat well on their property or who have overhunted their property. They are trying to use the feeder as close to the fence as they can get away with to pull deer from the adjacent properties. I am guessing the deer like to hang out in the denser woods on the OP's property (at least in fall when the acorns are on the ground) and only venture across the fence to get water on the neighbor's wide open pastures.

Better than my situation. 600 yards of my drive to the stand is on the fence line. I pass 2 stands/feeders and if I'd drive another couple hundred yards I'd pass another. Couple weekends ago both stands I pass had hunters in them. Stands can't be more than 75 yards from the fence line and one has a feeder roughly 40 yards from the fence.

So I was double checking distances... looks like feeder is a little more than 100yds from fence. 130yds or so

However, when I went to this alternate site this feeder has been there longer than the blind.

Looks like this will not be an easy thing.

A lot of people do it that way because they dont want to be accused of intentionally shooting across a fence, if they place the blind close to the fence. Some neighbors will get blood boiling furious if you set a blind on the fenceline.

Ive got blinds set on fences, but I purposely put them against big oak trees so I physically can't see onto the neighbor's property.
drred4

Makes sense. Too many put the blind where the feeder should be.

Switch blind with feeder is what I bet game warden would advise as a mediator

Yall do know that in a lot of the country, hundreds of thousands of deer are shot on properties every year, that arent even 300-400 yards across. There are entire states where people wouldn't even be able to hunt otherwise.

I completely understand why it pisses you off and is dangerous. I deal with a similar situation. The problem is that until a bullet crosses the fence he hasn't broken the law. If you park by the fence and blare gangster rap while you know he is legally hunting on his property you are now breaking the law. At best the game warden is going to tell him it is a poor idea and explain what can happen if bullets/people cross the fence. He is legally hunting as it sits.

That'd be practical. Still a bit closer than I'd prefer but at least not potentially shooting me or towards me.

I don't think this looks like a big deal. As other have said, there are tons of people that rifle hunt on 20 acres….

So are you offended or truly concerned with safety? Your google earth shot looks like an elevated blind shooting at a feeder on the ground?

Two of my neighbors have blinds set up just like your's does and I feel like im more likely to be shot at HEB by some dum-dums concealed carry than I am by my neighbors who fire 1-2 rounds per year. They would have to be hunting at the exact time that I just happen to be passing by, shoot and miss, the bullet ricochet up, pass through some brush, and find its accidental target. I just file it as, not worth worrying about in life.

If your actually worried about safety, offer to go help them rearrange the setup.
