I slept in the car last year. Tried sleeping with AirPods playing a fake fan and could hear it. It's terrible

Get one of those roll up 4 inch mattresses at Costco and sleep under the dining table. I think you'll fit.

Take a cot and an air pad to get some sort of insulation and comfort. Sleeping bag on top of those. Fleece liner like suggested and/or warm bottle of water.

I'm not going 50/50 on a room I can't sleep in. Tell him it's gonna be 90/10. You'll sleep outside, piss outside, brush your teeth outside. Just use the shower and **** inside. When he asks why you set the 5 gallon bucket, trash bags, and TP next to his bed.... negotiate 80/20.

Assuming the lodge has electricity, can you run an extension cord to the tent and run a small portable space heater?

NO!!!!

Assuming you go through with this:
1. Don't skip on the sleep pad. Warmth and comfort are essential.
2. Wear a stocking cap, not just a hoodie. Keep your head and ears warm. I failed to have a cap on in the dead of winter in RMNP. Thought I might wake up frozen to death.

Does not seem possible. Just sayin'

Well, recalling that I once heard sleeping under a table in a roadside park, a man could wake up dead, I shiveringly reckoned I could wake up frozen.

I guess it depends on what kind of 25 degree bag you have? walmart and you will be cold. Western Mountaineering or Feathered Friends, and it should be more accurate. I'd still go for overkill - a front might push through and be colder. Like others said...need an insulated pad to sleep on and will make a huge difference.

Get a white noise machine and everyone in the room will sleep better.

Meh, rock the tent. It's your own personal space and a lack of sleep will ruin any trip. If you're not having to pack it all in on your back, it's fine. The "expensive" stuff is that was because of weight and waterproofing. Neither of which seem to be an issue here.

I've done it dozens of times at friends places for hunting trips. Rock the pad, bag, and any other cover you'll need and you'll sleep like a baby. Done it more than a few times at friends places where they had everyone packed in like sardines. Even on college trips for just getaways, I always had my gear in the truck in case there was that one drunk a-hole that was up 'till 3am blaring music and making too much noise.

Just don't puke on the sleeping bag.

The coldest night I ever spent in a sleeping bag, I got sick and puked all over it. Because of the cold, I stayed in it until morning, but that sure made for an uncomfortable sleep.

I'm assuming you are driving. Take a buddy heater and fuel canisters just in case.

Highly agree with the recommendations to put a blanket in the sleeping bag with you. It makes a big difference. I did that this year in Idaho, and it was a game changer. Bring a propane heater and a bunch of little propane bottles.

This and the guy who said use a space heater… yall please don't do this *****

You run a high risk of catching the tent on fire or killing yourself from CO poisoning.

Suggest to him to buy a Snorex mouthpiece. It works and has saved my marriage.

Sleeping wont be a problem. Make sure you are in dry clothes and not what you have been wearing all day. That's a big help.

The problem will be getting up the gumption to crawl out of your warm sleeping bag and get dressed.

That's where the Buddy Heater is great. Fire that thing up a few minutes before you crawl out and life is so much better.

Some cold weather campers swear that drinking some cooking oil in the morning will warm you up fast.

Also, I've read that for really, really cold (i.e. Antarctica) a stick of butter covered in molasses is wonderful.

If you want to burn down the tent, sure

OP, grab your self a long extension cord and a heated electric blanket to toss in the sleeping bag. You'll be golden.

And I also wouldn't pay 50% of a room to sleep outside. Tell your cousin to pound sand.

Great advice as mentioned. Just be sure that the blanket is either inside the bag, or if on top, isn't too heavy so as to weigh down the insulation and negate the effects of warmth trapping by effectively deflating the air pockets

Did you try actual earplugs? Get the foam ones that are rated to reduce 30+ db. I'd be surprised if they don't work for you. Also could duct tape a tennis ball to the back of a tshirt and have them wear it. Most people snore the worst on their back.

If you go the tent route get one that will fit twin sized air mattress and sleep on that. You're not camping so weight and packability are not an issue. Can use as many extra blankets or whatever you need from the hotel if your bag is not cutting it, you just don't want to be on the cold ground or have cold air under you sucking out your warmth.

I thought you were gonna advocate ball gag with the tennis ball and duct tape.

I have tried real earplugs when sharing a room with a heavy snorer. They were ineffective to say the least. Now I book my own room if I need to so get where the OP is coming from.

Tent is irrelevant for warmth, unless you're bringing a canvas tent and hot tenting.

As someone mentioned, the temperature rating is for keeping you alive, not comfortable. The lower the rating, the more expensive the bag. You can double bag. Put your nicer bag in a cheaper bag and you'll be golden. Also, hot water in a water tight Nalgene by your feet does wonders. You could also throw some hot hands in socks and go to sleep wearing them. Beanie that covers your ears will keep you warm too.

Don't sleep directly on the ground, on a cot without a pad, or on an air mattress that is directly on the ground. You need insulation from the cold underneath you. I usually do a cot, a backpacking pad that has foam and air, then sleeping bag(s). A buddy heater is great for knocking the chill out before you get up in the morning (or night to pee).

The tent is the least important part of that equation.

1. Bag
2. Pad
3. Your prep

I have a cheap one man backpacking tent that works fine for nice weather. I use it when I'm camping without the kids, like at a scout adult leader training or something. I wouldn't expect it to perform in heavy storm winds. But in that case, you could always go back inside.

Every electric heater now has a tip over off built in. If there is electricity near that would be the best option for a super comfortable tent. I would have a bigger tent though if it's that many days. Having spent near 4months in a tent off grid in April - July in Montana you appreciate some comforts. Cot and chair are game changers. If it's super cold you want blanket and pad under you, cold will come right up through you and it's miserable.

I'd be more worried about one shorting out and causing a fire while I was asleep....most of them are cheap overseas garbage.

I have one under my desk at work and it popped the other day.

I've run a small space heater in a tent for years without any problems. Set it on a small table, and it's fine.
