Looking for a deer feeder that is:

1) Directional (i.e. throw the corn at a specific direction only, not 360
2) Ground refillable (able to refill with corn while standing on the ground)
3) Good reputation for durability (like ASF or Ranch King)
4) Known for keeping racoons out

The "directional" is the hard one to find. Unless I made a contraption that would block the corn for about 300 degrees, like a shield. But then that would put the majority of corn right below the feeder.

I also thought about a fish pond feeder, but not sure about the protection against the coons.

We have one of these. It works great, just have to make sure to clean out the rotor every now and then as the corn gunks it up.

We've had good luck with these, and there's some good Aggies in their family.

Thanks! That looks like the one to do the job, though can you tell me more about the corn getting gunked up in the rotor? Have you had other feeders that were better at staying clean (i.e. compare to say the ASF or other leading brands)?

The cannon feeder in intriguing but I'm thinking the mere "bang" factor would affect the deer skidishness?

Dr deer post about using cannon feeders. He tested for them i believe years ago at research facility. Either way he gave them high praise and deer were not scared, came immediately.

Remember pavlov dogs theory, its just a dinner bell when they get used to it

It's pricey but saves a lot of headaches in the long run. Uses a small air compressor and tank to shoot the corn out. It doesn't scare the deer any more than a normal spin feeder. Actually have video of a doe jumping out of the way of the corn.

The rotor throwing corn just pulverizes some of the kernels and it gets really dusty and for lack of a better word gunk. You could probably run it either way and never know the difference, I just don't like having that stuff build up.

Not familiar with those other brands but it differs from a standard feeder in that there is 360 to discharge whatever bits fly out. This one catches a small batch of that.

I made my own directional feeder. Its not a stand an fill but I ended up zip tying a cut up gallon jug to my racoon guard so it only throws corn in a 275 degree pattern and what hits the jug just falls straight down underneath.

I have two directional 800# Krivoman feeders I bought from a buddy. I love them and stand n fill. I am not sure new price but recommend them.

What does one of those run?

They should have named the Cannon Feeder the "Money Shot".
