My kids take part in a local fundraising event this time every summer. The past few years they have been donating the proceeds to either St. Jude's or Make a Wish. This year they want to donate to the flood victims.

What is a good, preferably local charity with boots on the ground that is actually out there on the frontlines making a difference and helping people?

Thanks,
Girlhowdy

Our vet here in College Station sent information about the TAMU VET (Veterinary Emergency Team) and their need for support currently. :

"They continue to treat and care for the search and rescue dogs of Texas A&M Task Force and Texas Task Force. These dogs and handlers are working tirelessly to continue and find the missing family members throughout Kerr County. For those that don't know, The TAMU VET team deploys all over the state and country to areas where natural disasters have occurred to help treat injured animals and to ensure that the search and rescue dogs continue to perform at their best. I spoke with the current Kerrville Lions Club President, she said they had several members who are also first responders, and the Club was actively working throughout Kerr county, trying to respond with physical and monetary needs.
Kerrville Lions Foundation

The Kerrville Knights of Columbus (Catholic Mens Organization) is also helping, has direct knowledge of many needs.
