It's possible that the officials won't name the girls publicly and let the parents do it, but that just seems strange they wouldn't report a rescue if it was verified at that point. Maybe the sheriff had not put physical eyes on the girls yet or they weren't Camp Mystic girls.

why not report any rescue if true, not just Camp Mystic girls?

AFAIK they haven't discussed any rescue specifics. Just concrete numbers of people they have rescued. I would certainly hope the Kerr County Lead would be their verified source, but we did have that whole business with the Judge verifying everyone was accounted for. I think we just have to pray at this point that it's miraculous news for several families.

I've never seen a low like this with rain camp on Texas so long. Get the hell out of here and let us be.
A lot of similarities to Tropical Storm Amelia in 1978…..

I lost one of my classmates in the floods.

How long in advance was the presser scheduled? They went live at 2:45PM central (about the same time as yesterday's) but the reports that two more girls were found was only about 2 hours and 15 minutes prior to that and it was basically social media from people that were purportedly involved in the search and rescue as it was occurring.

That's a short period of time considering you first have to rescue them, get them to the hospital if they are injured (someone said they might have been flown into San Antonio) and notify the familes.

Also, it sounded like they did find other bodies in the vicinity... so that complicates matters and you wouldnt want to rush a feel-good presser and risk getting the details incorrect. The families and their loved ones are the most important thing now.

Im just as eager as everyone else for good news, but patience is in order here.

I live in far north San Antonio, near Fair Oaks, and confirm 2 or 3 helicopters have flown over in the last couple of hours from the direction of the hill country toward the medical center area. Hoping it is those found alive.

I tell my pastor "I have a lot of patients with a "T". Real problem with patience with a "c".

I have been praying continually since the 4th for these sweet girls (and others, too). I sure hope there is some truth to these rumors. Hate that four bodies may have been found nearby. But I think people were giving up hope of finding ANY survivors.

I don't want to derail this amazing forum but I have a related side project for you (see link). The OB was inspirational for me finding my way to Center Point early today to volunteer for search and rescue. Amongst the debris was an Aggie cap. Can you help me find its owner?

It doesn't mean it's not true, just not verified. Let's keep the hope alive.

Update from TAMU VET

In Kerrville, the VET has remained focused on protecting and treating the hardworking canine teams that are searching for the missing. These searches have been difficult, with numerous snake bites and the challenges of navigating rough terrain. We are honored to do our part in supporting these heroes, and we're hopeful that the search missions will be able to help grieving families find closure.

We want to thank those of you who have reached out to support the VET's efforts. Currently, our mission is focused solely on the working dogs; because local veterinarians are handling the residential animal needs well, we do not plan on expanding our mission yet.

If you feel moved to support the team, contributions to our deployment mission are always appreciated. Gifts can be directed to tx.ag/SupportTheVET.

This has been a particularly solemn mission; while all loss of life is tremendously sad, the loss of young children hits particularly hard for the entire community and the state as a whole. Please keep all the folks in this region, and in other flood-ravaged areas of Texas, in your thoughts and prayers.

We live down in Spring Branch just west of 281 and about 400 yards south of the river. In 2002 something similar to this happened over a total of about 7 days from the end of June thru the July 4th period we had 36 inches of rain at our place. 30 miles on either side relatively nothing but a train of water coming over us. This peak was at 29 feet. The 2002 peak at 44.

Hope these good dogs are getting all the love!! Rescue and recovery missions can be very hard emotionally on them in the same way they're hard on humans.

The dogs get the love ..

The stats when I was there were that VET kept the K9's in the field 33% longer.

That makes a world of difference.

They actually have a frosted peach right now. Just for you, I shall now refer to it only as the "frosted ginger"
